just happened today while i was in class getting ready to fire up a VM of server 2008. plugged in my laptop, pressed the power on button, and i get two short beeps in succession along with the display not coming on at all. i have diagnosed it to the cpu fan not powering on, but even switching the gpu fan (which was working fine) over to the cpu fan (which doesnt power on at all) did nothing for my testing as the gpu fan (in the cpu fan slot) wouldnt power on while the cpu fan (in the gpu fan slot) would power on.

tldr - neither fan powers up when plugged in to the cpu fan power connector. need ideas on what to do or what else i could diagnose. computer is out of warranty...

    computer in sig.

RAM. Whenever I get a beeping motherboard I always reseat the RAM first.

Disassembly guide here if you need it: W8xxCU_ESM.zip

Give it a shot, let us know if it helps out at all :)

did that while i was already inside the computer. also tested the computer with only 1 stick of ram in there at a time. only other thing i can do with the ram is revert it back to the memory that came with the computer (i upgraded to 8gb ram after it became a heck of a lot cheaper) but i dont think that will help me out with the cpu fan not running at startup....
