What GPU would preform better, a 9800m GTX w/ 1gb or Dual 9800m GTX w/512 mb?

what do u think? a v6 or a v12? Dual 9800's will perform better in games that utilize sLi, games that dont, well then u will be equal to one 9800, win-win situation either way.

Dual 9800m's to be sure! The more the merrier! :)

Is it easier to lift a weight with one arm, or 2?

(when there's 2 NVIDIA graphics cards it's called "SLI" BTW) ;)

The NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTX is only available with 1GB per card, so this scenario isn't possible. You would need Dual 9800M GT 512MB, which are lower performance cards than the GTX. Here's some good information, comparing the performance of these two cards:

As above, 2 is better than one.

Do not be fooled by the memory size.

The two cards in SLi will outperform a single card of the same calibre. However, you won't have double the video RAM - when two 1GB cards are SLi'd, only the RAM of one card is used; the better performance comes from splitting the video work between the processors on each card.

SLI ftw: at least 1.8 times faster.

OK, lets say I want to play crysis... Would my FPS go up much? I mean, if the Nvidia 9800m GTX 1gb gets 30 FPS oh high, what would the 9800 gtx 512 dual get, 35, 40?

SLi does not double the game performance over a single card - you may realistically expect maybe 50-60 % improvement in FPS for games that use SLI capability.

Yes SLi does not instantly double the performance. Its not up to full efficiency yet.

How much of a performance increase will I see with SLI technology?
The amount of performance improvement will depend on the application and its ability to scale. Several of today's hottest games see a full 2x increase in performance when using SLI technology with two graphics cards. 3-way NVIDIA SLI technology enables up to 2.8x performance increase over a single GPU. In general, applications running at higher resolutions with higher image quality settings will benefit most.

Of course, its NVIDIA's website and I'm too lazy to get some benchmarks. Its obvious that its not 2x improvements for most applications but the performance gain is still remarkable. You'll pay for 2 video cards, so twice the price of one video card but its only a fraction of the whole laptop price.

does anyone know of a laptop with that and is priced around 1800-2100 us dollars? im on a budget so...

EDIT: Lets say I want to buy th Sager 9262. It offers a 9800m GTX w/ 1gb and a SLi version of it. Is there a way to uprgade it to use SLi 9800m GTX w/1gb later on or do i need to order it with the second card?

yes, but the performance is dependent on the game, like crysis warhead yeields double the performance in SLi. So it gives depending on the game, regardless your talking about a 60-90% increase in frames, i guess thats not a good thing....lawl/QQ.

You can get the NP9262 with one 9800m GTX now and, assuming that they are still being carried, purchase another 9800m GTX and SLI cable later and install yourself.
