    Hey guys,

    My laptop model: Clevo W670CZ
    OS: Win7
    BIOS: 1.03.06 (2014)
    Graphics: intel hd

I've tried to hook external GPU (gtx 1050) with my laptop using Exp GDC Beast PCI-E dock. Luckily, motherboard detected the GPU, but after installing nvidia drivers I got "code 43" error telling me that "windows stopped this device because it reported problems". My BIOS has no option to configure anything related to video devices and is 2 years older than given GPU. Could this be the root of the problem? I did some research and found a few cases involving bios update that fixed this error. The whole bios update thing is freaking me out, since I can't even find one. Maybe I should just ditch my new GPU then get something older from 2014 and go from there? What are your thoughts guys? What would you do in my situation?

If you have @Prema BIOS or unlocked BIOS. Enable PCIe hot plugging for the respective port you are connecting the eGPU to. Or use a driver older 372.90. preferably the 372.70.

    This is my bios: http://i.imgur.com/fNhIJxs.png
Regarding drivers, when I browse gtx1050 drivers the oldest one I see is 375.63, it was released in Oct, 2016. I checked your driver number, it supports 1060,1070,1080, but not 1050? From what I see my card wasn't even out when they released these drivers. Should I just try it regardless?

Yeap then you will need to.mod the driver inf with the the appropriate hardware IDs.

Alright, I can do that. I'll mess with different drivers tomorrow. One thing I forgot to mention though, when I try to restart OS after installation it hangs at "Shutting down" screen. I have to power-off my laptop manually. Not a good sign.

That might be related to the hot plugging. But I'm not sure. It might be something else entirely .
But try and see if there is an unlocked BIOS for you laptop somewhere. That is the easiest solution.

I modded 372.70 and indeed there's no longer code 43, manager shows that device is working properly. However, my games won't launch anymore. Changing "prefered graphics processor" in NVIDIA Control Panel does nothing. One game has a launcher and there were options to choose from now there is nothing. Other game crashes to desktop instantaneously. Could it still be a driver issue?
So if I manage to get unlocked BIOS, what am I suppose to do there?

Edit: I've tested older game (2012) an error popped "this game requires a shader model 3.0 compatible graphics adapter".

That is indeed weird, im really not sure about the games not launching part.

But if you manage to get the BIOS unlocked, you will need to goto PCIe preferences under the chipset section and enable hot Plugging for the port your are connecting the GPU to.

You could try a stock BIOS update, although I don't know of any updates from Clevo to address this.

Which iteration of the W670 do you have ( CZ is not right)? Is it RZ, RC, etc.?

I uninstalled drivers and unplugged eGPU things now back to normal. Thanks for the heads up on hot plugging though, if I pull this off I'll post it here.

Oh yeah, sorry about that it 's W670 SZ. Motherboard is W65-67SZ. There's actually a full pdf manual of 240 pages I found yesterday.
I suspect my BIOS is so limited due to the fact that there's no dGPU in laptop.

Btw. Were you following similar threads over at TI? And how we got ours to work without the Code 43?

Nope couldn't even login there, or even browse the site at all since Christmas due to their new anti-add blocker not working with my Internet security (even when white-listed)...so finally gave up on trying to force something that apparently isn't meant to be.

You are using a TB3 Mod, remember. ;)

The Code 43 doesn't happen over TB3. I actually tested that using the stock firmware as well. And it was all kosher.
It happens when adapters are used over m.2 or mPCIe. And the only thing that fixes it is enabling universal PCIe hot plugging or for the respective ports.
It has something to do with the stuff NVIDIA added to assist hot plugging over TB3.

For systems with your magic it was ez as pie, some unlocked their manually and things worked. But for systems like Dells with the recent BIOSs having their IFR structures are confusing, people are kinda SOL.

Did you miss my m.2 tests ? :(

They forgot to add a disclaimer on my GPU box stating "This version is for hacker use only" I would've looked elsewhere. I just want to play the game man not to crack codes...sigh

Yeah DIY eGPUs are very platform/laptop dependent.
    Or
easy as pie if you @Prema 's mods.

Most.of the problems are on systems without dGPUs or one that have both dGPU and iGPU.

Thanks to Prema's magic formula I am now able to access hot plug feature. Yet still I'm running into the same issues. There are 4 ports for pcie hot plug I enabled the first two (no idea which one I need). Regardless, I can't seem to install drivers properly. At least I know that 375.63 is correct for my gpu, but it shows code. Even 372.70 now shows code also nvidia control panel missing.
    %NVIDIA_DEV.1C81.6150.3842% = Section***, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1C81&SUBSYS_61503842
This is my ID I put into sections with different *** numbers and then add card to [strings], maybe I suck at editing I don't know...

Download the modded drivers from here and install them :

    https://www.techinferno.com/index.p...ort-modded-inf/&do=findComment&comment=155395

Make sure you follow the instructions to the letter, and Driver Signature Enforcement is turned off. The instructions for that are in the first post of that thread.

Also just enable Hot Plugging for all of them. Get the eGPU working and then you can work on finding which port is which.

OMG I enabled all ports and 372.70 came to life!!! It works! No code 43. Nothing. Although I only tested games on internal lcd there's a significant increase in fps compared to intel hd. I can't thank you enough guys bloodhawk & Prema, this is unbelievable...it actually works.....

Really glad it worked out for you.

Try one of the newer modded drivers from the my previous post, if you want to play some of the newer games that are really anal about the latest driver versions.

@Prema has made it amazing by unlocking one of the most difficult to unlock ,sections of today's BIOS's - The Chipset .

So far I've been able to test only with internal lcd, which doesn't show the full potential of eGPU. My current external monitor is 10yrs old with blank screen, I just hooked it up to activate this card. Now that everything is working, I'll capitalize with new monitor.
Speaking of laptop alone, the FPS doubled. I use to play at low resolutions, but 1600x900 looks so much better now. Intel HD took up to 3mins to launch one game, now it's 20sec and I'm in. All loading screens in general run at full speed, there's no waiting time. It took so much weight off processor that laptop fan is no longer going crazy with AC plugged in, not a single fizzle. You know just small things like this that make low end users like me happy.

So today I encountered a blue screen error. It was related to drivers. I uninstalled 372.70 and modded 375.63 as usual, which is the first genuine software for 1050. Surprisingly, it doesn't show code 43. Will see how it goes.

The older drivers weren't meant to be used with 1050/1050ti. Thats why i told you to use one of the recent ones and use the modded inf.

Is the performance the same still? I bet the cooling finds it easy being out in the open like that and using the 1050 core :)

Yes my bad. I was too scared that code 43 might come up again. It seems that I will be able to install the latest drivers and updates without too much hassle.

No complains from CPU fan whatsoever, it got well deserved vacation. :) FPS didn't change though, it is by far the least of all improvements. But It all comes down to external monitor.

Notebook Asus Rog g46v, graphics card Asus Rog geforse gtx 1060 strix, connected via exp gdc in mini pci-e port, power supply aerocool to 600w. Windows 10 64bit

After installing the 372.70 error 43 has disappeared. But now, after some time, the game takes off video driver, restart helps. Has anyone encountered this problem?

Ok guys, no matter what drivers I install, game crashes to blue screen (faulty drivers). As shown below, ntoskrnl.exe and nvlddmkv.sys is the culprit.
Will see if there's a way to overcome this.

    Hi,
I am doing an eGPU with w110er and 1050 but stuck at error43. Managed to put on Prema Bios - Mod v3 UOV edition
but could not find any obvious for me ways to enable PCI. Using Windows 7 .
Tried with NVIDIA 378.92, 375.70 375.63 still not managed to make it working.
I used Safe mode and DDU for uninstalling the old drivers as well. prior to installing the new ones.

Any advice - or is t necessary to go n the route of modded info drivers - no experience there.

You should be able to find those setting under Advanced Chipset - PCIE Devices Section.
If not the, i would definitely give modded drivers a shot.

    This is very interesting.

Is there a way to bypass all of the extra hardware and simply use that adapter to have an HDMI input to my internal LCD?
