5793 owners, take a look at the side of your screen. see how there's a narrow crack between the two pieces of plastic? i just noticed that at the bottom left side of my screen, that gap had widened significantly! the two pieces were split apart.
i nearly had a heart attack, until i noticed that they clicked right back together with a simple pinch of the two pieces. It seems fine now, but it scared me a little bit...plus i have no idea how or when that happened. anybody else ever see this happen?
-
edit: let me make that a little more clear. when i say the side of the screen, i mean the actual side of the chassis. (what you would see if you were looking at the laptop in profile.) those two pieces have a tiny gap between them...that's what somehow got split wider open at the bottom...not broken, just somehow they came "unclicked"
-
i don't have any gap. they are only like 0.1mm wide.
-
right...i don't mean a large gap...just that it's distinguishable that there are two pieces of plastic

Well, if it occurs again maybe you could put a small piece of black electrical tape down there to hold it together... I would say clear epoxy but you may have to replace screen someday.
Questions:
1. How long have you had your notebook?
2. Do you lug it around in a backpack very often?
3. If so, does the design of the bag put stress on the side of the screen bezel? -
I don't see any piece of plastic there? only the screen frame and the LCD itself?
bigjohnsonforever, he only got it 2-3 weeks. -
I've only had it for about 3 weeks
i feel like maybe this is the result of the bag i carried it in once or twice a few days ago. it may be exerting some stresses on it, so i'll be sure to take a look. i'll be sure that in the future there's never any stress on that part of the notebook. i don't want that to re-open -
The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
May be a pic will help.

What kind of bag were you carrying it in, how were you carrying it, what else were you carrying with it, where did you set it down, and did you bump into anything?

I know exactly what part what he is talking about... if you look at the side of the machine, the frame (bezel) that holds the screen in place has two parts that come together to keep the screen from flying away with the computer angels, where the two pieces meet there is a gap, just large enough for me to fit my fingernails into, this is the area you pry apart when you want to replace your screen. I gather that callidor is talking about the section that is closest the the hinges and is therefore in the most danger of stress and the forces of nature because it is on the outside of the frame and must take the brunt of force if your notebook is in an uncomfortable position. Hope that answers your question nirvana, he is talking about the two pieces of the frame that hold the screen in place coming apart near the bottom, or right next to the hinges. I have seen this exact same problem on many notebooks and laptops in the past, short of an RA situation the only solutions are 1) TAPE and 2) GLUE/EPOXY.
I wouldn't worry about it too much because the 7 rubber pieces around the front of the bezel have screws underneath that keep the frame together, what is happening is that particular snapping section has come unsnapped for some reason; but your frame is not going to come apart completely unless you remove those screws. -
I've had the same thing too with my last M570RU. I just pressed the two parts back together and they just clicked right in place. Please use caution when doing or trying to do this; it worked for me, but I don't know if something can brake.
-
Well fortunately mine just snapped back together as well. I am going to take special care not to exert much force on that part of the chassis...i'm not particularly concerned, but i don't want it happening again
-
I think it happens.... I "pinch it" back every month or so and hear a little click... dont think its a big deal, probally expands and contracts a bit due to heat changes or w/e.
not a big deal imo, always snaps back into place easily enough. -
Sounds like the bag you used o far was a bummer
-
Since the trouble spot is right down near the hinges, it could be caused by stress generated from the way that you open and/or close the lid.
-
guys there is a small clip there that holds the 2 halves together this piece unsnaps very easy using even just a finger nail.. i wouldnt worry to much about it. i had it happen once then snapped it back and never had it happen again
-
here are a couple of pics of the small clip that holds them together...this is from my lid i bought that i was going to paint...
-
what kind of bag were you using? makes me worried about carrying mine in the targus i bought.
nice pics z, i can see your previous post ans shyster's avatar in the background -
Hmm...thanks for the detailed explanations! I'm glad that this isn't a sign that i was somehow unknowingly abusing my baby
-
In my opinion, the most flexy (is that a word??) part of the 5793 is the edges of the screen casing.
-
yeah i think ill agree there they dont have much structure behind the screen i think it could have been done a bit better myself but when compared to other companies lids this on is def pretty solid. i think they should all be made a bit better

thats on the D901c also, sort of. You don't rele even need the screws to keep on the LCD faceplate. it clicks in. BUT, i have seen however if the mechanisms that allow the LCD to bend is messed open, it may push open the bottom edge like that. If that rele happened on its own, i would personally open it up and make sure theres nothing wrong with the hinge over there.

It seems I had a similar problem, after I inspected on reading this topic and seeing that picture. Just pressed it and it snapped back the way it should be. All fine now
eep!
