yes... there is a separate hidden partition where the factory image is located.. i would like to load that image and restore everything as it was when i first bought it, thus deleting everything i saved.

Do you know for sure there is a factory image or are you assuming there is?

I've never heard of Sagers/Clevos having factory images due to the high customizations of these laptops it would be a huge undertaking to provide individual factory images for every possible configuration.

If you want a true image, reformat, install windows and your drivers, and then create your own image for restoration.

If you ordered it with Windows pre-installed, your reseller should have shipped you a copy of the Windows install CD in addition to your regular driver CD. Restore partitions are never very useful when you really need them. (For example: What happens if the hard drive kicks the bucket and you weren't given reinstall media?)

The best way to do it (if you want a backup image) is to run Windows Backup or another third party utility to create a full copy. Or slimstream a Windows install disk yourself with all the apps/drivers installed along with Windows.

All of ours have a custom restore image, as part of our build process we automatically capture and prepare a factory restore image on a hidden partition that is customized to your machine. We also include the windows DVD also.

So is this the "OA"/"OEM" license, or a "Retail" one?

I thought all manufacturers that bundled Windows with systems were using the "OEM" / "OA" licenses, to provide it at a discounted rate, and therefore could not provide installation media.

(I've yet to see a true "clean" OEM installation media that is for Windows7, and figured they weren't doing that any more)

I always used nLite for xp and you can use vlite for windows 7. Allows you create a custom installation of windows - so you can add drivers and custom configurations and applications. :)

If we don't provide the original media we would actually be breaking our terms with Microsoft according to our agreement. And the DVD is a true straight up hologram'ed DVD right from Microsoft. So only the recovery partition is customized, the DVD is a straight SP1 slipstreamed DVD of windows 7. Yes, they are OEM copies also, not retails.

Thanks, this is good to know. Not having seen a real OEM DVD yet from other manufacturers was starting to make me think it wasn't available any more.

However, as we don't get our OS's from Sager, your machine will ship with a Sager OEM DVD, not a true OEM dvd, as thats how they are setup. Not saying thats worse or anything, just a heads up.

There is not a thing different from Sager's OEM DVD and any other OEM DVD. It is part of Sager agreement with Microsoft and there is 0 difference between the two. It is a true OEM DVD, just with Sager's labeling on it, again as per their agreement with Microsoft.
