Hi, I'm considering getting a used NP8278 as opposed to brand new model such as the NP8677-S which is more expensive but has a lower memory video card and is not upgradable . I see one for $1,169.00 to buy right away but I will have to buy a 269 Square trade warranty to go with it.

    Intel® Core i7-4810MQ (2.8GHz - 3.8GHz)
    - 17.3" Full HD 1080p 'Matte' Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Anti-Glare
    - NVIDIA® GeForce GTX 870M (6GB) GDDR5 PCI-Express
    - 8GB RAM (DDR3 1600MHz) (3 empty slots to upgrade)
    - 120GB Crucial M5 mSATA SSD
    - 750GB HDD (7200rpm SATA II)

Is this a good deal? What price threshold should I look for? Is this computer upgradeable and if so to what?

    Thanks.

Clevo makes great computers, but their resale value is terrible. That machine is at least $300-400 too much. It's too bad you didn't post a few days ago, as I had a machine very similar to this one for sale. It had a bigger SSD but no hard drive and was probably not in as good a shape physically, but I would have sold it to you for a lot less than that.

Take a look through the marketplace section of these forums. There are almost always folks who are selling decent quality PCs, even from upgradable brands such as Clevo, MSI, and Alienware, for a lot less than what you would find on fleBay. Here's one. It's 15.6" but has more SSD storage and a much better GPU.

Definitely overpriced - agree that it's about $300-$400 too much. I had a very similar laptop and I sold it locally for a bit less to avoid the hassle of shipping (Canadian, so shipping to US is expensive), but when I was researching prices, they were much lower than what you're being asked to pay.

GPU/HD/SSD/RAM are all upgradeable. CPU is upgradeable too, but your options are more limited in that newer mobile CPUs are all soldered.

Unless you intend to make it a project build a 965M setup would make more sense.
