hey, i would really love if i could get this pc (5792, vists x64, 8800m) to run (all but) silently when not running system-intensive operations.. does anyone know what I can do, as the fan control thing does not work (it jumps back on pretty fast no matter what) like i'd like it to, putting it in power-saver mode while plugged in doesn't work.. what else can i do? I'm sure someone out there's got answers for me. I am almost positive i have the latest bios, definitely the latest fan firmware.. what's up?

edit: here is my info from cpuid hardware monitor: (celcius)
    ACPI...
    THRM - 40 c (40-41 range)
    CPU...
    core 1- 31 C (31-33)
    core 2 -34 C (34-35)
    GFX...
    GPU core- 43 (43-43)
    HDD
    HDD... 50 C (49-50)

    how does that look?

it can run on medium fans... you just need to update the fan firmware to a good version... the latest isnt the best at times

its been discussed soooo many times in this forum.

read the Clevo M570RU Owners thread for the fan firmware/speed posts.

Did you look into undervolting the CPU? See the undervolting guide. If there's a bit less heat then the fans will have less work to do.

speedfan works mainly for desktops only, not notebooks.

undervolting the CPU (with RMclock) and the GPU (with RivaTuner) will help keep down the heat.

another thing that many owners of that notebook use to keep down the heat and the fans from spinning up is having a Zalman ZM-NC2000 notebook cooler.

If your a brave soul you could consider finding out what kind of thermal paste was used on your CPU and GPU. One option would to be to go with a better compound and remove the old gunk and reapply cooler material. That and a good cleaning. :D Again, not for the timid or the butterfingers!

Somebody really needs to make a proper fan-control utility for this laptop.
    Equal to i8kfangui for Dell.

.7sh is the most stable so that is the best you are going to get. The notebook is louder than your average mainstream notebook so it may be loud if that is what your used to.

This is my favourite RU subject :)
Fn+3 is not perfect, but it keeps the noise at a minimum and a constant level.
Undervolt , underclock and you`re all good.
I`m fine with even using it in lecture halls, not quiet libraries, but anywhere where there is at least a background noise.

    Well, I got attention.
Last time I checked, 1/4 of the posts in the RU fan noise thread belonged to me :D

And I was satisfied in the end.Kudos to sager for that.
