when i first turned my new computer on yeterday it goes through the usual load up of all the programs. when it came to the fingerprint readed it loaded and worked perfectly. i just notice after closing the lid today and then bringing it back out of sleep it loaded the reader as a new user. if i click on my admin user it logs back in without using the fingerprint. i deleted the new user and tried again. once again it creates a new user. it wont let me add the reader for my log in.
    any ideas guys.
    thanks.

Maybe you add other accounts to the fingerprint database? System Settings > Security Mode tab...I don't really understand the problem. I find that the software is just so-so. I can't get it to work with Internet Explorer. Maybe that's because I have IE8??? (plz dunt say i shuld get firefox).

    get firefox :p
    let me try and explain.
if i go into sleep mode and then turn back on i have the option of 2 users.
fingerprint reader is one and jim is the other. i can just click on jim with my mouse and im back in. i want to protect this with the finger reader instead of it making a new user account.
i will be the only user on this laptop but if i take it to work i want to protect the files with the finger.
    does that make more sence.

You have to go to the power options and there, somewhere... you will have to tick a box to ask you a password after it resumes from sleep or screensaver, or whatever...
Also, your account should be password protected in order for you to be able to do this.

I believe you cannot remove your username from the login screen and I think there's a reason why: what if the fingerprint reader didn't work. How would you login? You can just create a password for your account so on the Welcome screen, you can choose between entering the password and using the fingerprint. As you are the only user using the computer, you could just autologin on startup ( http://www.lockergnome.com/windows/2007/02/20/configure-vista-for-automatic-logon/)

thanks milcs. thats what i didnt want. i thought the finger could be used instead of having to type a password each time.

wow, thanks livesoft. ive not seen them setting pages before.

so if i set a password on jim but use the other log in with the finger, will that user still have admin rights.
ill get there one day :)
    thanks for your help.

You need to set up your fingerprint thing with the password you set up for your account. Then, every time you roll your finger during log in, it will introduce the pass for you upon recognizing your fingerprint. So you will still need the password, but the password won't need to be inputed by typing. Does that make any sense? (just woke up...)

So, when you set up your password and enroll your fingerprints, whenever you see the log in screen you just have to pass your finger on the reader (not needing to touch anything) and voilá.

The fingerprint reader will always show as a separate user, but it isn't. That user is just there to show you you can use the fpr (it isn't there in safe mode). You need to set a password for your account, then log in and open the fingerprint software, then set it up with the fingers you want to use (I have all mine enrolled) then set it to be used as a login. Then, when you're at the login screen, swipe your finger and it will log you on to your account
