    hi

did anyone manage to fix the powerplay issue with RBE on the radeon 5870?

(all power state link to the first one)

did anyone tried to change the fan behaviour?

Use RBE, you can change the powerplay clocks and voltages and fan settings there (Only if you know what youre doing, otherwise ask someone to do it for you if youre still willing to proceed).
But i hope you do realise theres a risk at flashing the vBios that you brick your machine?

I believe the clevo 5870 does not have powerplay. I have tried editing the clocks in all states but it makes no difference. I have also tried changing the fan settings, and did not notice a difference, if there was any at all. The only thing that seemed to take effect was changing the default clocks. Changing the voltage past 1.15v did not change anything and in fact made it so the default clocks go back to 700-1000, i thought that was strange. And also changing the voltage past 1.15v made it so the the amd clock tool did not recognize the video card.

I don't believe anyone has successfully enabled PP with the Clevo vbios or been able to modify the mode settings.

The video card fan settings can be modified and implemented. I reduced the threshold temp to 40C and the max temp to 100C. The fan operates accordingly, in effect increasing fan speed by 5% above stock settings. However, it doesn't seem to have much effect on actual operating temps, but my experience is limited at this point.

Is it possible to undervolt the 5870m ?

Cause now, it's summertime here with 28-32°C in my room, the 5870m idle @ 60°C at this temp (gaming @ 87-89°C in 1080p mode)

Yes, you can undervolt but the benefits are limited, and it requires modifying the vbios and reflashing the card. A much simpler and more effective method to reduce idle temps is downclocking.

    1. Download and install AMD GPU Clock Tool for HD5870. techPowerUp! :: Download AMD GPU Clock Tool v0.9.26.0 For HD 5870

    2. Create a shortcut to AMD Clock Tool, right click and select Properties, modify the command line in the Target box by adding "-eng=200 -mem=300" to the end.

Double clicking on the modified shortcut will reset your card to the lower clocks and typically results in reducing idle temps by 7-8C, sometimes more. Some people automate the process by adding the modified shortcut to their Startup folder; others leave it on the desktop and downclock manually as desired. To return to stock clocks (700/1000), launch AMD Clock Tool and click on Restore Default Clocks.
