well i have a Clevo M860TU (sager) 8660 or whatever the first ones to come out were, got it in august of last year.

    9800M GT in it

    i recently upgraded:

    500gb 5400 WD HD from 200gb stock
4gb of crucial ram from 2 gbs of what ever i ordered it with (dont remember)
    Windows7 64bit from windows xp

did this over a month ago but haven't really had to time to game until lately and i noticed a drop in FPS (CounterStrike:Source) to toping out at around 100-80 fps from before when i would hit 300 without the upgrades

i also installed new video drivers which i never did before my upgrades (that i can remember) either that or a combo of my other upgrades made it so i cant use my old resolution

im also using a config(same config as before) and gui that are both supposed to boost fps with no luck

    thanks for any input/ideas/comments

It could be that your latest graphics drivers are telling the GPU to not go full power for CS:S, and your GPU is scaling its power to what CS:S is demanding from it via PowerMizer. Unfortunately, if you installed the latest WHQL Notebook reference driver from Nvidia, there is no way to disable PowerMizer in the Nvidia Control Panel. There is a PowerMizer switch application somewhere on these boards, but it doesn't work for me using drivers 186.81 on a single 8800m GTX (basically same as 9800m GT) in a D901C, so YMMV.

Also, check to see how many background applications are running in Windows 7. I'm not familiar with Vista or Win7, but I know that Vista has a bunch of garbage running in the background by default.

There is no way increasing the amount of RAM you have is the cause of the FPS drop. If anything, it should have increased it because a 64-bit OS adores 4GB of RAM or more.

Finally, did you install the latest Intel Storage Matrix driver thingy? That is, if there is one out for Win7. Although you could probably get away with using the INF for Vista x64 via the Have Disk method to install it. Unsure how that goes. Anyway, the point is that a hot hard drive which the M860TU is known for could be the culprit of your FPS drop issue. What is your hard drive temperature?

Just as ettornio said, it's because of the powermizer.
