so I got my p170hm about a month ago and I'm real happy with it. But I'm a bit of a clean freak when it comes to smudges/etc on my screen so I always try to keep it as clean as possible.

I've had this cleaning solution from bestbuy for a year now, that came w/ its own rag that you spray the stuff on and wipe, but it seems to leave some light smudges even after drying it off w/ a clean/dry part of the same rag.

was wonder what people here are using, esp. if there are some that really try to keep their screens as clean/smudge free as possible.

    thanks!

I haven't found an everyday smudge that a microfiber cloth won't clean. :)

I'm sure the combo of any suitable cleaning solution plus a microfiber cloth is all you really need.

On my TV's and Laptops, I will only use a microfiber cloth with a 50/50 mix of Isopropyl alcohol and distilled water. Both can be purchased at your local wal-mart, to include spray bottle. Never spray directly onto the screen and only wipe in one direction. Works perfectly. My 3 year old Samsung LCD with a glass bezel/screen still looks brand new to this day.

I always just use a microfiber cloth to clean. The cleaning solutions always leave streaks and smudges. I'd say try that before you bother with any cleaning liquids or sprays.

I would email the reseller i bought it from and see if i can get the screen replaced...

just kidding lol, I've used some micro fiber screen wipes before which worked on stains that won't come off from dry micro fiber cloth. you can buy those at electronic stores.

I'd stay away from sprays, or multi-furniture stuff like pledge which could ruin the finish.

so... general dust and smudges, just micro fiber cloth. smudges that won't come off, alcohol solution in a micro fiber cloth.

The challenge is rarely dust....it's when somebody decides to eat an apple while staring at your screen, and sprays sticky droplets across, and then notices and uses their finger to smudge them back and forth - that you really start needing some manner of solvent beyond a regular cloth.

I have microfiber cloths from WalMart. Combine that with Staples LCD screen cleaner and it works great.

    =-)

p.s. don't eat over your keyboard or laptop, helps keep the cr*p down :)

"I just spray it on some kleenex" No No No don't use kleenex. It has wood fibers and could scratch your plastic screen.

Or when people cough and sneeze all over your screen. Merry Christmas!

What's this microfiber cloth from Wal and the LCD cleaner from Staples? How about that microfiber cloth from bestbuy? I guess they are all the same.

Microfiber just refers to the type of lint-free material, not a particular brand or anything. You can also find them in automotive stores for better prices :)

    careful guys careful.

i highly HIGHLY suggest NOT using microfiber cloth when using a cleaning solution.

use high quality 100% cotton, like in a nice t-shirt, to clean with your solution.

follow this up by a DRY cleaning with the microfiber.

from what i was told at the eyedoctors when receiving my new glasses, the microfiber is not meant to get wet. it tends to leave microscratches and build up over time and make the glass look almost foggy :(

let me know if im wrong, i'd be happier knowing people arent screwing up good screens believe me!

I disagree. That could possibly happen if you never clean the microfiber and it gets a build up of grim on it and then you end up grinding that into your glasses or monitor.
I've used microfiber and/or cleaning spray on my glasses for years and NEVER had an issue with them. I don't see how the LCD screen would be much if any different.

Gonna have to disagree with you on this one... I NEVER EVER use alcohol on screens. It can eat the finish.

Only use pre-approved lcd cleaning solution for the display. I used isoproponal alcohol once on my Acer and it ATE the plastic bezel off my display (not cool)

    **edit**
please note I'm entitled to my opinion. And like every opinions they can be like @ssh*les's .....everyone has one, and they can stink ;)

It does also depend on the strength. A little alcohol will cut grease but not cause damage in situations where 70 or 90% will eat through.

I always try ramp up. Dust with a microfiber cloth, if that isn't enough, try water. If that doesn't work, then get into cleaning products.

It's a universal cleaning solution.......you have to get 50/50...anything else streaks.... I've been using it for 8 years....never ceases to do the job...
