i ordered a new lcd from a freind being he was able to cross reference the lg i have to other brands. i actually ordered 3 different lcd's and im testing them one by one. i have the lid apart and im just simply placing it in and testing them before i put it back together. ive known him for years so i can send back whichever i dont like with 0 restock fees.. nice. i ordered a auo, a samsung and a higher end model lg. im typing this on the auo screen which is the same model but with different brackets used in the older 1710 dell systems everyone RAVED about. i have to say its MUCH nicer then the lg i had. much brighter and not a hint of grain. unless the other 2 are better i found my new display!! but im not sure how they could be any better than this.
ill keep you posted on this. i can write a how to for anyone interested but i dont suggest trying it unless you have patience and are good with these kinds of things. i did it with 0 damage not a mark or a nick anywhere. but i use special plastic wedges and tools i have for when i work on car interiors so they dont mark them up or cause any nicks in the factory plastics.
i am also going to paint my lid i just have not decided on a color. i may take the whole thing apart next im not sure and do a custom paint job as my buddy at our local body shop said i can use his booth and guns (i used to paint cars for a living)...
keep you all posted.![]()

Defiantly interesting! Keep us posted on more! Also, how is the Samsung, have you tried it yet? What resolutions are these screens; are they all WUXGA?
-
so far the only one i tried is the auo and they are all wuxga. i may also have him send me a wsxga which is what i really wanted but he didnt have any in stock that would fit at this time
-
woa you are lucky i wish i was you... Ask your friend if the WUXGA (led connector), is compatible with the ccfl screen.... and if you can get your hands on one of the WUXGA led please try it, tell me if the connector is the same.
-
i will ask him tomm for you.

Thats hardcore dude, testing 3 different screens to see which is best, BTW do you know what screen comes in the most recent 5793 ATM, I dunno but its looks great I have to say. Hope you find a screen that satisfies every z"factor" possible (get it, rofl)
You know was thinking about getting a WSXGA, everything is so damn small!! (but beautiful) -
Also, if you have WUXGA (according to your sig), wouldn't WSXGA make things larger because there would be fewer pixels? -
no the sager 5793 all have the same screens. the wuxga are all the same and the wsxga are all the same. its the inverter i found out that is different between them. they are all the same it just depends on the resolution.
for wuxga they are all lp171wu1 (TL) (A2)
and for the wsxga they are all lp171we (TL) (A2)
after speaking with this guy i know he has confirmed for me it makes 0 difference which screen your hardware id says you have. the lplf600 is the same screen as the lplf0000 and the lplf6001 etc... they are in fact all the same if you pull the lcd out (which i have confirmed mine reads lplf600 but in fact it is the lp171wu1 (TL) (A2) mine has a sticker on the back that says lplf600 but when removing it i took off a bracket and there was a small sticker i missed the first time that states lp171wu1 on it even though it reads a lplf600)
i told him i saw a lplf0000 that looked WAY NICER than mine (this belongs to a friend of mine who i had come by today and he let me take apart his 5790 after seeing me do mine and his was in fact the same lp171wu1...) so we asked why was his brighter than mine he said the inverter and the drivers can effect this. he suggested taking his inverter out and doing a quick swap with mine. we did and low and behold my screen was now bright and his was like mine used to be....
im now typing on the sammy and imo it sucks. its grainy ... bad grainy...the stock lg and auo blow it away with the auo being the best so far. i still have another lg to see how that looks.
i may end up just having him send me a different inverter for my stock lg and leave it at that and save myself lots of $$$..but the possibility of dual lights and led lighting excites me. hmmmm -
Awesome! So nice to hear that you may finally get a good view!

here is a link to a replacement oem lg panel in wuxga:

and one for the wsxga for those interested in swapping res out:
http://www.smartmicrousa.com/LP171WE2_TLA1_LCD_SCREEN.aspx
this is the auo i have mine is just a different version with diff brackets and a single bulb, i can not find the direct link for the one i recieved
http://auo.com/auoDEV/products.php?func=info&product_id=137&items_id=2
update the higher end lg will not fit without first prying off the brackets on the sides. not sure i want to try this because then i cant send it back it will fit in the hole for ours but ill prob plug it in and see how it looks. -
just fyi:
that start with open the laptop up.. place towels or other over any exposed plastic including the keyboard and i slid one under the lcd plastic trim through the back just to protect that as well.
i use a small plastic pry tool then to remove the rubber bumpers 4 on top and 3 on the bottom. these are held on with double sided tape. fyi so far all 3 times i removed them from my system and once from a friends i had to apply new paper thin double sided tape to them which i have a roll of. i use 3m "white" since you cant see it once they are placed back in and imo the white is stronger than the clear.
now use a #1 screwdriver to gently remove the 7 silver screws around the display.
slide either a plastic pry tool or i also was able to use my finger nail on my thumb.. between the 2 halves of the lcd trim piece and lid. start at the very bottom near the hinge if you feel it with your finger you will feel that the lid side is slightly raised compared to the inside trim. using your finger nail pull the inside trim GENTLY toward you. it will pop out on that corner. now using your finger nail start sliding around the trim. pop each spot one at a time and GO SLOWLY.. if it will not pop out as you go get a plastic pen cap and use that to gently slide and pry at the same time this will not cause damage.
once you have removed the inside trim place it aside where it will not get scratched.
there are a total of only 6 small screws that hold the lcd in place. 3 on each side. unscrew those and place aside. there is also a single screw holding the inverter board in place. this need to be removed also. gently pull the inverter board off the single post holding it in place. now gently pull the lcd out of the side brackets toward you. be very gentle. once its out (it may take a bit of works at first to start it) lay it and the inverter down over the towels you place over the keyboard.
if you are just doing a lcd swap at this point unplug the lcd plug the new one in and replace in reverse order. if you are replacing the lid for any reason read on.
there are 2 long metal brackets. the bottom one has 3 screws the top one 4. remove the screws one bracket at a time while holding them with the other hand or they will fall onto the back of the lcd.. they should not do damage but better safe than sorry. place them aside.
there are now 3 small brackets with 2 screws each. they are the antenna wires for the wifi card. you will notice the tape holding those wires in place. remove the brackets one at a time. now gently remove the tape and place aside. do this for all three.
the last part is the camera. there are no screws holding that it is just tape. it has double sided tape holdit only to the metal foil on the inside of the lid, be VERY CAREFUL as this circuit board is very thin and imo fragile. the cam wires are also taped in 2 spots. remove as before and place the tape aside unless using new tape.
you now should have the lid in your hands.
replacement is the revers of this order. -
btw man this thing is smoking fast now!!!!! WOW..
-
zfactor.... the AUO screen you mention is a dual bulb screen. Did you get the 2 bubls to work?
-
no mine is a single version i could not find the link for the single version i have here. i WISH i knew if the dual bulb will work. i called my freind and im awaiting a call back to see..
-
i know that the dual bulb version doesnt work cuz you need a dual bulb inverter and clevo doesnt have any for the 17 models. I really want o know if LED backlit works with it.
-
You are an awesome contributor Zfactor!
I don't suppose you could get the part numbers from your source for the better quality LCDs for the 9262, could you? I've listed the LCD part numbers from the service manual below. Although I've listed all four available options according to the service manual, for my own purposes I'm really just interested in the first two (the WUXGA and WSXGA+). Any info you can get would be very much appreciated.
For reference, according to the D900/D901C service manual available from the Eurocom website, the LCDs used in the 9262 are:
- WUXGA
LG LP171WU1-A4K4(Glare Type) 17.1" - WSXGA+
LG LP171W02-A4K1(GT/IPS) 17" - WXGA
AU B170PW01 V1(Glare Type) 17" - WSXGA
LG LP171WE2-TL03(Glare Type) 17"
P.S. Rep on the way when the system lets me.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 - WUXGA

he can cross any display over.. ill email him with the part numbers you provided for me, let you know what he says. we are working on looking for a dual light lcd for the 5793 now.. !!!!
-
you found out anything on the led WUXGA?
-
he is looking for us now.. he said he will try to get back to me tonight or tomm.. ill keep you posted.
-
no news bro?
-
i have a led one coming but we are not sure if it will fit. ill report back as soon as i get it.. i can tell you they are very expensive. im going to see if it will fit but im not sure if ill keep it depending on what it ends up costing
-
-
i may even be able to cut the one end off and solder a different end on.. im more worried about amperage / voltage and fitment issues. i should have it some time next week.
-

-
lol i may have to look into that..

definitely interested.. my 9262 has a w02, really crummy in brightness and is a little grainy.
-
You mean off the LCD VIDEO CABLE? where would you get the correct connector end to solder it? -
^^^ not sure yet but i have a LOT of sources for odd things.. i may not be able to find it. i cant say more really till i get the new lcd here. the cable going to the invertor itself is just a reg type molex plug which im sure i can find (i have about a 500 page catalouge with just conectors in it).
-
-
well see when it gets here trust me im crossing my fingers..
-
so this led screen .. is it wsxga? and who is the manufacturer
-
i know nothing about which screen he is sending me. i simply gave him the oem info on my screen and he picked out the matching screen. he said the led is not a direct replacement but it may be able to work so he said i could look at it to see. i will not know till it gets here who makes it. i would assume it would be wuxga since thats the part number i gave him from lg.. but im not sure.
-
How do you like the LG? I realize you like the auo better but im going to be purcashing a 9262 soon (WUXGA so WU1) and curious of your opinions on it... response time feel, contrast, brightness..
-
the LED version is a wuxga and it is an LG Philips.
-
hmm so cotolay ever try that dual lamp inverter? I haven't tried because I don't have the funds atm.. However I am interested in the LED screen. Would it be compatible with the inverter the 9262 already has?
-
Hey Z, if possible can you do a side by side of the 2 screens(what you have now and the lew coming one) ?
I`d like to see the difference,if it`s actually worth it...cause now you got me tempted -
i can try but i cant have them both on at the same time since i only have one 579x. and my camera sucks.. ill see what i can do. trust me ill report back if its worth it or not im basically ocd when it comes to my screens..
-
. zfactor might be able to make it work with a generic dual lamp inverter and mod the lcd cable so that it fits the motherboard.
-
I`m curious, how much power do these screens need?30-40W ?
-
dunno but i desperately want to replace the screen i have now, its terrible and doesn't come close to matching the brilliance of my previous notebook (fujitsu)
-
did you get the lcd zfactor?
-
yes but this one did not fit at all was a bit of a different width and it would not have fit within the brackets. he issued me a call tag and is sending me out a different model ## one...ill keep you posted dont worry
-
he sent you a different LED WUXGA model?
-
I just want to know which is the brightest and less grainy one that fits. Hell, the screen is the thing you see the most in the laptop,it must be top notch...
-
so far the auo blew the lg away... if i can get my friend to bring his back to me (he has the lg in his) ill put the auo back in mine and take some side by sides with it.. ill ask him this weekend. personally i think ill be putting that one back in and leaving it unless i can get a nice led for under 500$.
sorry for any delay but im simply waiting on him to get me the screens. since im not paying to be able to test them out im not going to complain about waiting for them to get here.. -
I own a Vostro 1700, with a WXGA+ screen that has awful viewable angles. I'm seeking an upgrade on the screen (to alleviate the viewable angles for the most part).
From reading around, a screen people are most pleased with is the LG Phillips LP171WU1.
The LP171WU1 has the exact same dimensions as my current screen, so it would definitely fit inside the bezel.
My concern is that its a WUXGA screen, so it's a resolution upgrade also. Will I probably need to replace the LCD flex cable, the inverter, both, or is this just a ridiculous upgrade that I probably just cannot do? -
easy upgrade.. i may have one for sale very soon i will know in a few days ill keep you posted.. its brand new from a sager notebook used for about 1 hour. 0 dead pixels. ill know when he gets here with his 5793 for me to check his audio jacks.
-
Thanks ZFactor,
Please let me know if you do end up wanting to sell one of those screens. I'm interested!
got my new lcd's for my 5791..
