Hey guys does anybody know what a gt650 is capable of, game wise? Planning to get this laptop for my birthday and wanted to know what the graphics card can and cant do. Wanting to try out bf3 on maybe medium/high settings and where do you think the frame rate be at? if id get 40-60 id be very happy.

Was also wondering if the game is still ok when the size of the screen is small so Anybody with a m11x and playing dota2/starcraft can tell if the minimap on the lower right corner is still good enough to see?if not then i might get the 6165 for +>100$ Gt650 can max dota2 right?

Sorry for asking so much but I am lost in the computer world(dont know much) Comments/feedback would be highly appreciated!

There aren't a lot of benchmarks yet, but the 650m should fall between the older 460m and 560m in terms of power. You can check out those benchmarks to get an idea of what you'll see. Battlefield 3 will maybe do just above 30fps on high at 720p.

The screen size is really up to you. I've used smaller 11" machines before and they do take some getting used to, but in terms of pixels per inch it's not any worse than say a 15.6" screen at full 1080p

Thanks for the quick reply. Now my only concern before getting this thing is the size! Ive been with my mac unibody 13.3 inches for 3 years now and i dont think gaming on a 11inch can be comfortable but 6165 solves this problem with a huge screen!

I think thats not so easy to say because its up to your own taste if the minimap is big enough...

I had no problem with the size of the map on the M11x, but I also didn't play a lot sc2 MP.

But one thing to consider is, when you plan to play BF3 or other FPS games is the size of your targets on 11" ;).

It sounds to me like you'll want to go bigger. I would take the plunge on a 15" if you are gaming. It's a far better experience in my eyes.

As going from 13 to 11 might bother you, but going from 13" to 15", I think you'll dig it.

The 11.6" screens at 1366x768 aren't going to have smaller icons/effects/visuals than a larger 15.6" screen at a higher resolution like 1920x1080. The more pixels you cram into a screen, the smaller things get. That's why a lower resolution on a smaller screen will come out about the same in terms of strain on your eyes as a higher resolution on a larger screen. (This is also why 1366x768 on a 15" screen is pretty awful from a usability aspect- lots of wasted space). I'm not talking about usable real estate though, as obviously a higher resolution screen will offer more space overall.

If you don't need to carry a laptop around really a lot I'd go for 15".

11" in my case is just for the reason that i walk around a lot (basically every day) with the laptop and also need the power for gaming, but don't have the money to go for 2 systems ;)

one small thing though, those results are for the DDR3 version, according to this review( HP Pavilion dv6 (Core i7 3720QM Processor 2.6GHz, 8GB RAM) Review - Notebooks - CNET - CNET Asia ) GDDR5 version plays BF3@1080p medium avg 36fps... so I'm gonna take a good guess at 1366X768 on high it should be somewhere 35-40fps

Hmm, also add that a lot of the reviews are doing at a higher resolution than 1366x768 or whatever the W110ER uses. You can imagine if the 650m plays BF3 at high with 31 fps at 1600x900, it would be phenomenal at 720p.
