I'm a little worried about my 580m temps and wanted to see if anyone else is getting temps this high.

A 3dmark11 run will top out at 89-91C.
A furmark run will top out at 96-97C at which point the fan is at MAX and it stays at that temp.

I paid for the diamond heatsink paste but wondering if I have a bad paste job, a bad heatsink, or what...

    What are others seeing?

odd...3dmark11 should be at high 70s to low 80sC on stock clocks, and no Fn+1. What's your room temp? and what's the temp at idle?

Hmm, thoughs temperatures don't seem horrible but they are a little hot. It seems like the 580M GTX runs hotter then the 6990M. I think Terminus just posted in the 580M thread and he said he hit 88C in Vantage with a decent overclock though.

For 3dmark11 those temps are higher than expected, though that's about what I'd expect to see with Furmark.

What are your ambient temps? Is the machine on a hard flat surface? Did you raise the back end of the laptop?

You can always try repasting it yourself if you'd like to before RMA'ing it if you can't track down the issue.

Yes those temps are not acceptable. Definitely needs to be repasted for a start and if that does not resolve it, like was already said, it is RMA time. Sorry. :(

Sorry guys, I must have left it overclocked when I did that run, so ignore those temps.

At stock speeds, I get 74C for the 3dmark11 run and it hovers between 92,93C for furmark.

The original posted temps were my 840/1950 overclock.

I swore I went down to stock when I took those temps, but obviously I goofed so sorry for the false alarm.

So sounds like I'm running at the right range then?

Also, I haven't kept up on best of the latest pastes, but is the diamond stuff the best? I last used Artic Silver 5 when I was building my own rigs and still have a tube of it if it would be better might be tempted to try the repaste, though I don't know about that heatsink mount, it looks like you could overtighten it?

Ah, those temps are much more normal. You are correct, those are definitely where they'd be expected for 3DMark and Furmark and well inside the acceptable zone.

IC Diamond is supposedly a degree or two better than Arctic Silver, but you definitely can't go wrong with either compared to stock. As long as you're careful, repasting isn't too difficult or risky. While it's possible to over-tighten, just tighten until snug, you don't need to go nuts :p

My 580m was running 92c-93c on Vantage and 11, 96c-97c on Furmark and all that with lifted back, Notebook cooler and ICD repaste...just doing the RMA...

Man Prema, RMA sucks. Maybe then can just send you a new cooler and you can put it on yourself? Must be a bad heatpipe on the cooler since you already repasted.

You are running at stock speed/voltage?

From a forum comment of your link:

"...there is a very simple test for checking if a heat pipe is functioning. Stick one end in boiling water about 2 inches deep and hold the other end. See how long you can hold it? Should be a very short time, about 5 to 10 seconds..."

Will give it a run tomorrow...

Yes that does sound better! 74C is in the good range for 3dmark11 . :)
