That's actually pretty good pricing at xotic. Your still not using the same components. but never the less pretty good.

And that setup in your sig... does it have system wide over clocking?

    Side Note:
With exact same options I get this.
    Regular Price
    Cash Discount
    Cash Discounted Price

    $1663.00
    $49.89
    $1613.11

    You are right... I was actually off on the Ram(pricing the 8170 w/ 8gb 1333 4sodim vs. 8 gb 16004sodimm).

The two systems w/ the upgraded screen to 120 mhz 3d
    - Both w/ 2670 i7 2.2 - 3.1
    - 6990's
    - 8 gb 1600(Xotic only offers 2sodimm vs. AW's 4sodimm 1600)
    - 500 gb 7200 rpm hdd
    - windows premium
    - Intel advanced 6000 series card
    - 8x DVD r/w

    Xotic: $1,634.00 shipped

    Dell: $2,259.00 shipped

Both systems w/ the 580M instead of 6990:

    Xotic: $1,964.00 shipped

    Dell: $2,259.00 shipped

It doesn't have a turbo option/button if that's what you mean, but yes, you can overclock to 3.1 if you are willing to run the risk.

Do you see where you need to add 239.00 dollars to the price. that is a screen equivalent to the one in the aw

This has been a fun comparison... I would say that it's safe to assume we are both thoroughly bored at the moment. Hah.

I added the 120mhz 3d to BOTH the 8170 and the 17x in my last assesment above...

Still, $600+ difference in the two w/ 6990's and $300+ diff in the two w/ 580m's..

I see what you are saying now though..

    The 8170 I priced didn't come w/ 3d glasses..($200 upgrade from stock 17.3 1920x1080 FHP) - the AW screen is NOT 72 or 90% NTSC capable).

That makes the price $1699.00 shipped.

    So that's $1699 vs. $2259(6990's)

    or

    $2029 vs. $2259(580m's)

In effect, you are paying 220$ for the 580m upgrade and AW name, or $560 for the AW name(w/ 6990s)... Rather than it being free as advertised.

But yes, the 580M has dropped in price. Seems like nvidia has heard our crys. And a very good thing indeed....

    On the other hand...

New gpus could be out sooner than we think. ;)
    (speculation of course)

jmiller0809...keep trying my friend..You'll get it right sooner or later. :D
    your missing:
    The right wifi
    OS
High quality 90 gambit screen (both setups are 60hz only and no 3d)
    4 gb 1600 mhz ram

but on the other hand, aw is off the hook with that 200 dollar upgrade to 8 gigs of 1600 mhz ram!. :D

    Your right. it's been fun.

Of course AW is going to cost more. Thats a given to say the least...but along with that you get.
next day in home services if parts are available.
    replacement parts like running water.
    bartering on price per parts
    switching or adding some parts.
over clocking your system to the moon and getting it replaced....but for flat out price..the sager all the way. because the end user can have most of the parts at home and just buy the shell... :)

Still, i have to love the price drop! Go nvidia!

Ok.. So , the 10$ difference in a Intel Advancted 6230 vs. 6250 is gonna make a huge difference...

I priced both screens identically. There is NO difference there. And, for the record, the 8170's stock screen is better than AW's. (1920x1080 vs. 1600x900) - yet you have to pay $150 extra at AW to upgrade to the 8170's stock screen...

Both Comp's I broke down above come w/ windows 7 home Premium and both came w/ 8 gb 1600 RAM only XoticPC's 2 so Dimm is actually more valuable than AW's 4 so dimm...

    And, to upgrade the 8170 from 8 gb 1333 4 sodimm to 8 gb 1600 2 sodimm, it's only $90...(So much for your $200 upgrade for AW's 1600 4 sodimm...)

I believe you just aren't willing to admit to yourself that you overpaid out the *** for an identical system that looks cooler.

Sager/Clevo > AW.. Especially when you consider pricepoint.. The two aren't comparable - yet dummies still by AW without researching other brands...

You didn't even know what a 8170 was at this start of this so... I rest my case. :)

Sager naming is rebranded. Clevo is the maker.
    From earlier post:
And looking at the p180hm & p170hm same specs.
Pricing looks to be pretty even right now.
Not to mention far better warranty service for a standard warranty.

I would choose Alienware for $220 premium, plus I am positive I can find some coupon somewhere to get the premium off. Now who is going to be a good boy and do the same comparison with 8180 and 18x ? ;) . You have to agree 18x looks really cool! :)

Now that is a real price difference.
AW took a serious beat down there. And whats even funnier is..i bought this same setup back in August for $2350.00 (2630QM)

Well hell...I would have got that over the P170HM.
    Side Note:
    No option for 580M either.

    Back to gtx580m...

The pricing is the main reason why I never even bothered with P150HM. If it does lower, then bleh! :p

After market GTX 580M + heatsink is $800, plus he'd need to buy a 180W PSU.

Looking at that price you might as well roll the dice in waiting for the next-gen GPUs. That's half of a brand-new notebook.

You might as well just wait a few months.. I think the 580m's predecessor will arrive around March - which will drop the 580m's everywhere to current prices on the 6990 most likely. Save some extra dough that way OR make the same investment for the 29mm speedier, cooler(temperature) version.

Also, the XoticPC 8180 offers an extra $50 off for NBR discount.. You can get the 18x from PBR(who offers same discount) but their prices are like 100 - 150$ higher on AW than over at Dell's website.

I concur. I would wait. And looking at those prices... A 9800m GT is STILL off the hook in pricing. And that card is over 3 years old.
    Or
Pay a 1000 bucks for a *cough* 7950 *cough* gtx

let me give you a lil heads up, as soon as gtx680M arrives, nvidia will pull out all the 580m so that they can sell the 680m at a premium, they have been doing this BS for a long time. if they had gtx485m at 6990m price, everyone will buy that instead of amd, including me, malibal did have it for sometime to be fair, it was still $100 more than 6990m.

boukyaku, there is no reason for you to buy the p150hm if you are going to stick with gtx560m! :)

    I would have to agree.....but...
This is the first time in mobile gpu history that nvidia dropped it's prices to beat out amd. So maybe (we can hope and pray) this might be a trend....speculation of course.

    lol.............

    ^^^ That would have worked.
Im an over clocker more than a gamer. And i use it to fix servers computers & and other drives out in the field. That's why i chose this.
The x7200 just wont cut it on battery. 5 hours with light use is pretty hard to beat as well.

How well does the p170hm do? And does it have optimus?

ofcourse not :), though the refresh(Q2 2012) will support optimus. right now the battery life is around 2 hours i think. I am not too worried about it, I use my laptops as a desktop replacement about 80% of the time

So, have any of the other clevo/sager venders slashed 580m prices yet?
