So I keep seeing deals for new hard drives at slickdeals.net,

In particular, this one appeals to my eye.

It's superior to my current hard drive in every way (see my signature) and already costs less than the original hard drive I ordered through rjtech.

    However, some concerns that arise:
Does this increased storage or larger cache introduce greater heat problems? so far my drive has been running at an average of 50-52 C which I hear is safe enough.

Actually, does the brand Hitachi have cool enough temperatures? I believe my current hard drive is Western Digital.

Will it be particularly louder than a 320GB hard drive? Intuitively I would think no, since it still spins at 7200RPM much like my own. I am not too sure about some of these "hard drive basics" I feel.

The selected drive is 3.5 inch. To my knowledge only 2.5 inch can be put in the laptop. The one you indicated can be conected using an external case to USB, firewire or esata.

You bring up a good point! Slickdeals had advertised them as laptop hard drives, so I took their word for it.

Regardless, what about my questions regarding temperatures/noise with respect to hard drive storage size, spin speeds, or cache sizes?

1: its NOT a laptop drive it you would need to put it in an enclosure or mount in a desktop.

2: those drives run fairly cool, but not in a tightly enclosed space

3: yes it will be louder than a 2.5" laptop drive.

This is the ''best'' hdd you can put in there:
    Seagate 7200.4 500GB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148374

I don't really know what to think as far as heat is concerned, because some people with the same hdd as me in the same laptop have temps of about 10c higher so yeah.. I don't know if anyone got this drive yet tho.

I got that drive, but the ASG and not the AS version. The ASG got G-Force-Protection which the AS version do not, I think. The AS version is like 7USD cheaper than the ASG version over here.

I have no heat problem what so ever. Max temp is 55c wihtout cooler and with massive copying and stuff.
