Alright, for 4 years now I have been running a upgraded Sony Vaio desktop, but the college I will be attending is making me buy a laptop. Since I figured it was time to update away from my now-fully-obsolete Vaio, and being able to have my full system be fairly portable being an attractive prospect, I decided that the NP9262 would be my best bet.

I usually shy away from laptops because for what you pay, you get a system that is vastly less potent than a desktop.

I have decided on the NP9262 because it's very nearly a desktop in a laptop's body, it should be powerful enough to last me 4-5 years before I NEED to upgrade again, and it's fairly portable.

My first question is, how reliable is this system? are there any specific problems that it is known for? (searching the web hasn't turned up much, they seem solid)

My second question is, how is Sager's customer service if something DOES go wrong? I was going to buy direct from them... or is there a better way?

Actually, not really. The engine and drivetrain might be a touch better off, but the autoloader can be finicky as hell.

and Nirvana... thank you. that is the best response I have gotten on any forum for any question, ever. Bar none.

So what is the major difference in CS between XoticPC and Sager? Does Xotic offer something extra?

By the way, here's the loadout:
    - Display: 17" Wide Viewing Angles WUXGA LCD with Super Glossy Surface (1920 x 1200)[+$95.00]
    - Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Processor Q9450 / 12MB L2 Cache, 2.66GHz, 1333MHz FSB[+$150.00]
    - Video & Graphics Card: Single Nvidia GeForce 9800M GT Graphics with 512MB DDR3 Video Memory
    - Operating System: Genuine MS Windows® VISTA BUSINESS 32/64-Bit Edition[+$30.00]
    - Memory: 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 2 X 2048MB[+$60.00]
    - RAID Storage Options: Non-RAID Storage
    - Primary Hard Disk Drive: 320GB 5400rpm SATA 300 Hard Drive[+$60.00]
    - Optical Drive: 8X DVD±R/RW/4X +DL Super-Multi Drive & Software
    - Wireless Network Card: Intel PRO/Wireless 4965AGN - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module
    - Bluetooth: Internal Bluetooth Module
    - Primary Battery: Smart Li-ION Battery Pack
    - TV-Tuner: TVT-6010, USB ATSC HDTV / ANALOG TV TUNER[+$85.00]
    - Microsoft Office: Microsoft Office Ready with Free 60-Day Trial
    - Warranty: Sager 3 Year Limited Parts and Labor Warranty with Three-Day Shipping Both

I'd put the dual 9800 in it... but that makes it way too pricy.

XoticPC offers it's own extended 3 year warranty over Sager's 1 year non-accidental warranty (only technical). So that's two years extra worth of warranty from XoticPC (labour only, parts not covered). The same is applicable with PowerNotebooks. Also, you will get a 3% cash discount when paying via wire transfer. Then there is the advantage of much superior customer support through these resellers.

so... if something goes wrong, will Sager do a good job? But xotic and powernotebooks do an even better job?

Well, customer support through the resellers would be better. They have Live chat and a forum, etc. etc. Justin and Donald (the two owners) are both great fellas and would even die for their customers (okay-- not literally, it ain't a movie! :D) but you get my point... Also note that the first year warranty comes through Sager, then the next 2 years from the resellers. Ofcourse, you can goto the resellers for support though.

The difference between Sager's Warranty and XOTIC PC or PowerNotebooks Warranties is that you get 24/7 Domestic Based Tech Support and 3 Years of Labor Coverage.

If you have any questions I can answer, please feel free to PM or email :)

    You mean something like this?

I dunno, both the M1A2 and the T-80U seem like pretty formidable beasties; however, while the T-80U is faster and lighter, and seems to have comparable armor and armament, it hasn't been battle-tested in the way the M1 series have been tested. At the end of the day, I'd go with the battle-hardened veteran over the fancy-pants.

yeah I'd say resellers would provide faster, more reliable service.. and sager doesn't seem enthusiastic about selling directly to customer but more of getting shipments to resellers.. from older threads.. lots of people here would testify for xoticpc/pnb.. :)

As I understand it, the M1 has a limiter to preserve the engine. I would assume the T80 is the same. Outside of the T34/35, the T-series leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The T90's looking up though.

I have one more question about the 9262. It says that it's 2.35 inches thick. Is that with the screen up or down? That is as thick as a yellow pages phone book, but if it is with the screen down it's not that bad in my eyes.

yeah its with the screen closed.. its kinda thick i must say.. and wouldn't fit those normal 17" bags as they tested those bags with mac lappys and i have to say mac is kinda thin compared to 9262.. so check the dimensions first before you buy. for example, beer back from crumpler seems IS very big, but the lappy case dimensions does not seem to fit the thickness of the 9262.. so do check before you buy :)
