I am having an issue where I have to turn down the gamma to prevent some images from showing 'artifacts' in dark/black areas. The downfall to this is that now everything is very dark. Is this one of the unfortunate perks of having a glossy screen? I don't have this issue on either of my matte desktop monitors.
    My notebook is a NP8170 with a 6990M.

I fixed it. I had to do as you did and turn the brightness down to -20 in CCC. Didn't realize it was too bright until I started seeing horrible shading and image gamut issues.
