i have a m660sru notebook from sager. it has 2 gb ram, [email protected] and a nvidia geforce 8400m g. The gpu is running at 85C on idle, is this normal? Im trying to find this gpu on my notebook but cant find it. I need help, or is this a integrated gpu and these temps are normal? So confused right now about these temps and where my gpu is on my notebook =. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! dxdiag says next to DAC type:Integrated RAMDAC, what does this mean, my gpu is integrated?

Not sure about the model but assuming you've cleaned out your fans already?

    Have temps slowly gone up?

Consider reseating heatsinks, shouldn't matter if its integrated or not, should still need a heatsink...

It's most likely under a heat sink of some sort.

yeap without laptop cooler it went up to 91C idle. With the laptop cooler on it went down to 83C idle. Are these temps normal? im starting to wonder if they are

These temps are way too high. You need the maintenance guide to get to the GPU, remove the heatsink, clean and repaste for starters.

Does it look like one of these?

My GPUs (Sager NP7280) barely go any higher than 52'c while gaming maxed out - so this might give you the approximate idea if your temps are normal or not...

Out of personal experience - I've seen 80-ish 90-ish temps before, on my Asus G2S, it was completely solved when I cleaned the heatsink AND the fan blades and axis thoroughly, which obviously required removing and disassembling the heatsink module. I hope that clogged heatsink and dusty fan are the only causes of your trouble as well, therefore it should be relatively easy to fix it and enjoy your Sager as if nothing ever happened. :)

Useful tip: If you are into engineering, architecture or design, whichever requires anything drawn by hand - avoid doing it right beside your laptop. The heatsink of my Asus was clogged with graphite and coal particles (!) in the same proportion as regular dust, which resulted in a high-tech isolating compound, quite capable of getting the GPU to 85'c in no time at all :)

Although it has been mentioned twice already, have you cleaned out the fans and vents? The only time I had those sort of temperatures was when the vents from the fans were almost totally blocked with dust etc. If you haven't done this already, I would try this before even thinking of repasting the GPU/CPU, as this is a lot more work.

The GPU is just a little gray chip under one of the two heat sinks, I'm not sure which from the photo and didn't read the manual... worst case repaste both, but first blow out the dust bunnies and clear with a q tip!

theres only on heatsink asnd it is a long one. It extends from the cpu and goes down to the vent

Judging by the size of the CPU heatsink, I'd assume the GPU is under the same copper plate next to the CPU. The aluminum heatsink on the bottom-right is probably for the NB cooling. But I'm not 100% sure.

If you're comfortable with removing the CPU heatsink, you can get the answer quickly enough. I'd suggest doing it anyway, wouldn't hurt to repaste the CPU.

Missed that one, sry. Do you mean the one on the bottom-right on the pics or is there another aluminum heatsink somewhere? A pic would greatly help. Thanks

Just look for nvidia written on a chip.

If its not there, then it could be under your fan. I saw a guide somewhere on MXM-upgrade.com where there was a whole card completely hidden under the fan or cpu heatsink or something.

I don't get your fascination with integrated... that just means it would be soldered on, it still needs a heatsink and cooling or it will burn your board...

It's either under the copper thin or under the aluminum fan casing. Try one then the other if your comfortable repasting.

the space under the fan is just a hole that goes straight through, the fan is over nothing/ The cpu i lifted, its just a processor and nothing i took it out put it back, no gpu.

I am uploading the SM for your notebook as I type, it will appear in my sig list momentarily. Your GPU is under the big aluminium heatsink in the middle of the notebook. Being an integrated/relatively low power GPU, it doesn't produce enough heat to warrant it's own fan.

Edit: all uploaded, here you go

Its only a very low end, having had a quick look at the SM Theriko is right its under the big HS in the middle of the MB

Because its low end it will natively get hot (not sure about that hot!) as it doesnt need its own cooling solution other then a lump of ali

Really appreciate what you do for us and this forum Theriko. You are one of the NBR "l33ts" iv learned a lot of. Just wanted to toss it out here. Thanks for taking your time on a lot of basic stuff for us newbies. Iv learned a lot already.
