Ok im considering ordering an np5790 but I would like to play games like cod4, ut3, and crysis. Will the 7950 run these games well preferably on high settings or should I consider the 8700 which I havent really heard much good news about. I would wait for the 8800 or watever is coming out next but I start college in mid september n need it by then

Currently DX10 programming is not working out so well compared to DX9 programming, so the 7950GTX is faster than the 8700GT in basically all games. If you don't mind limiting yourself to DX9 games, then the 7950GTX is fine. I would bet, however, than in the next several years (I'm assuming you want this laptop to last a while) DX10 programming will become efficient enough to allow the 8700GT to display better eye-candy than the 7950GTX, not to mention the fact that it's quite possible some games in several years will be only DX10 compatible.

7950GTX > all DX10 cards so far. MXM-IV = able to swap it out for an 8850GTX (hopefully, when it comes out).

    'Nuff said.

No, if a game required DX10, it should not run on a DX9 card. Most game developers will target both DX9 and DX10 (or OpenGL and DX10) however.

Exactly. For this next year, at least. After that, they might remove DX9 compatibility... might.

I already purchased my np5790 :D, stick with the 7950 for a year and then swap it out for a more powerful DX10 card.

Ok but realize that "swapping out" might cost $500 or more. Or worse, you might not be able to swap out. There's NO guarantee that Clevo will make a card that is thermal compatible and that meets the specs of the proprietary MXM-IV that Clevo is using.

If you can wait, I'd advise waiting. It'll only be a couple of months.

If you can wait, I would. The first Sager shipment is without the integrated fingerprint reader. Secondly, Sager is not yet offering the latest Intel Santa Rosa Extreme Mobile Processor. Thirdly, DX10 as everyone else has already alluded to.

Killernotebooks.com offers their Executioner-SR, which is also based on the Clevo M570RU, shipped with the fingerprint reader. Plus, you can configure it with the Core 2 Extreme x7800 2.6GHz unclocked for $499 more. K|N modified cooling unit, standard on all Executioner-SR is awesome. The extra perks though makes K|N a bit more expensive than the Sager resellers. If you're looking for that extra "oomph", then K|N is certainly capable of providing the punch.

As for me, I'm waiting for the 8800 GPU and Vista SLI driver.

    Absolutely. Wait.

Early adopters never get the worm.

Wait... so, I have a friend who works at Intel. And he's pretty much agreed to get me what he can from there for a little extra to him. As I understand, it's pretty much 50% off of all standard things (processors, etc). So, he could get me an Extreme for $350 and I could just plug that one into my notebook if I get it barebone from RJTech? I.e. the mobo supports it and all?

Also, I don't understand why people are waiting it out for the DX10 card. I would much prefer the 7950GTX. More powerful, and just... better (so far). When more DX10 games come out, like next summer, I'll make the switch. Or maybe two summers from now.

2.0, when the hell are you not and early adopter? Let me tell you: when you own something obsolete.
