umm the 8800GTX went off quite awhile ago.. now there's 9800GTX SLi =0

you can try asking sager or the different resellers if they still have stock of the 8800GTX and if you can buy them over, but chances are, its hard to find them.. most probable source would be you buy a 2nd hand piece from another user and that user would probably upgrade to the 98 series.. :D

oh and, welcome back too :)

Welcome back, stranger; you've been missed (on top of having missed a lot). Glad to see you survived the wreck, at least with your brain and your fingers intact! :D

..and his brain has always been messed up. The first sign came when he started to put small bits of electrical tape on his processor :)

    Welcome back!

Very good point! That might explain the 5-month absence (after all, if you're just lounging about in bed, you'd either be using your D901C, or learning how to type with your toes! :D ). Of course, I was too limited in my imagination the first time 'round; after all, he could have lost all of his limbs and be using some sort of a speech to text synthesizer, or maybe even some sort of pointer stick taped to his forehead!

Hi, Dex, good to see you back. We've missed your crazy antics. :)

A poster a few weeks back said Sager is still selling the 8800M GTX SLI upgrade kit but it ain't cheap... $800!! I hope you can find one because I'm still betting you can get your machine over 17K in 3DMark6.

Technically speaking, the new aces in town are the 9800M GTX SLI and the OCZ Whitebook with it`s Ati Radeon 3870X2 ..

    That`s where it`s at.

Welcome back Dexgo. Trust me, you have not missed much ;) Except for the introduction of the Flextronic WD840DI as Eleron911 stated. Other than that.....same old same old.

Really?! I just paid less than $800 for my 9800m GTX SLI upgrade kit! Well... $798, but still!

And Dexgo, you could always upgrade to the Q9650 instead. That way you could figure out a pin mod OC for it. :p

It means a physical mod of connecting/blocking various signal pins on the cpu in order to force it to run at different voltages/speeds

You deactivate some pins on the processor (only q6600) with a tape and force the FSB to 1333. Since the original FSB is 1066 you will get a increase from 2.4 GHz to 3GHz. The pin mod is reversible and it might not work for all sample of the q6600, depends on the luck.

that's the specific pin mod for the q6600, I was talking in general ;)

it means that you actually block off communication to/from some of the pins on the actual CPU so as to make the processor perform differently; in this case, modifying the FSB and core speeds. :D

Would that mod be risky, in any way like frying the chip, etc?

Depends what cpu you are modding and what you are trying to do. The Q6600 is a simple mod (just put tape over one 'pin') but most other cpu's are much more involved (wiring together various pins to chance voltages/fsb)
