Ill start out with saying sorry for my grammar and bad use off spelling. Ill do my best to not use any long words... so i dont type to mutch bad :D .

here is the deal. I bought a P150HM lately in the netherlands from a shop called Xnotebooks. It is equiped with a 6970M and stays idle between 60-75 degrees, depents if the laptop is off the ground. So i went on a quest to find people like me!

What i found was that my card idles at 250/900, common issue wen the card is detecting a second screen. Easy to fix i though, to bad my laptop sees only one screen (laptop screen) so that could not be the cause off the higher clock speeds at idle (100/150 is most common)

Still stuck at 250/900 i found a bunch off people giving the same temprature indication as mine:
    "6970m idle temps on R3"

While this part of the internet gives a difrend indication
    "6970m temp results.."

So i am still wondering what could be the cause. Is it maybe my screen setup? I was able to buy the P150HM A (180W) model with a 1600X900 screen. If i than look back in the product manual only the B (120W) model has the 1600X900 version... Could this be the actual cause of the strange clocks (250/900) and temps(60-75) idle?

The laptop recognizes the screen as a plug-n-play screen only... I dont have drivers of these perhaps that could have fixed the problem?

Till now the sales person did not gave me any options and said those cards can take up to 100 degrees so 60 is fine lol...

    Thnx for reading
Input from you guys is apriciated!

I have / had a similar problem when running an external screen. I would idle at ~60+ degrees with higher clocks.

unfortunately i never found a solution, and i manual control my clocks using ATI tray tools.

That's normal when running an external screen. Typically that means you have two displays active, which bumps up the operating frequency of the graphics card.

For just an internal screen, I can't think of why it would run any hotter on one screen model compared to another (with the exception of the 120hz- which due to being a faster refresh rate, requires the GPU to work harder all the time)

This guy had the same kind of problem
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/589792-p170hm-x7200-6970m.html

It should have something to do with drivers since wen i delete them the card clocks it self back to normal and also wen i disable "power play". Though wen i disable power play it does not work itself up to 680 with 3D stuff.

My lologic behind the screen is that it might be an unknown screen by the GPU?? and there for treats it the same as an external screen wich is also PnP. 1600X900 is not officially in the manual as suported for the model A p150HM

yes the clocks will go to 250/900 when using an external monitor.

I manually downclock my card to 100/150 (default idle) when using my external monitor and the idle temps are much lower.

(goes from 60+ down to 43)
