she has a problem with using her credit card online, and doesn't believe me that it's legit.

What website are you ordering from?
-
show her the reseller rating of said online vendor. if she is still worried, have her call up the company...send a money order...personal check...many options you have.
-
My CC company has an option where they create a card number with a credit limit you determine. If she's worried about the security aspect of her card on the web that may help. Set it to expire in a month or two and have the limit be the cost of the laptop.

What I did:
I proved to my apprehensive parents that I had done the research. They were nervous about shelling out 1300 dollars to a no-name brand (Sager) carried by a relatively unknown reseller (Powernotebooks). I showed them the reseller ratings and some testimonials regarding previous Sager notebooks and their build quality.
Also, I believe many credit card companies will create a one-time use credit card number if you request it. This is perfect for people who are afraid to give out their credit card numbers over the internet.
Also, like Onimun says, both Powernotebooks and XoticPC offer phone ordering.

i was so close to get getting a vostro 1700 from dell.com, the tax kills it.
anyways my aunt agreed, i'll be buying it from powernotebooks....now she's worried about my laptop being stolen after it's delivered to my dorm...
any suggestions? -
just be smart about where you leave it. take it with you...keep it in sight..dont ask anyone to "watch" it for you..etc.

The thing is, the 2090 looks really plain. Although to me it looks quite striking, there is nothing on the outside that betrays what kind of power the laptop packs. You'll probably find people will mistake it for a sub-1000 dollar laptop and won't spare it a second glance. This will be extremely beneficial in preventing theft.
Also, keep the laptop within an inconspicuous bag, dont leave it lying out, and follow all of pbcustom's suggestions. Also, leave some sort of personally identifiable mark on the laptop in case you need to identify it if the police find it or something. You can mark it with an invisible UV pen, or put a sticker under the battery inside the compartment, etc.
Good luck on your laptop! -
I'm worried about mine getting stolen as well. Are those "anti-theft" programs worth anything ? Me thinks not.
