The DOS booting USB stick opesn a DOS enviornment. It will only recognize a file name of eight characters or less.
Therefore the Batch [.bat] file can not be named overclock, as this name has nine characters. It is easy to rename overlength files in windows, BUT edit the batch file to check the .rom name length also. The same rules apply.

SO, the .bat file name must be eight or less letters.
It contains a .rom filename of eight or less letters AND this
name matches a file .rom that is also found on the USB stick.

Your error message indicates that DOS cannot find the file: either the Batch [.bat] File [the command that you typed] or the instruction File NVflash.exe [the command in the Batch File] or the referenced .rom File [the name found after the -4 -5 -6] cannot be found. If you have located some of these files in a different directory on the stick, this error can also occur, as DOS does not search through Directories for you. Remember that DOS does exactly what you ask it to do, it does not have an error handling capacity.

Just want to send a huge thanks to Z for helping me through my update. I finally figured out what I was doing wrong thanks to him! Using 177.39 drivers for my 64-bit Vista NP5792, my 3d mark score went from 8390 to 8600. Awesome!

EDIT: 3d mark settings were off xD! Still a nice increase.

I cannot format the USB with the HP utility. It complains the content on the USB is "write protected". I run the program under Vista as administrator.

I have tried with two USBs with the same result. They are however the same (non)brand, one with unremovable password protection and one without.

Is this common? What brands of USB can become bootable?

    Edit:
Bought another (cheap) USB of another brand just to try. Yes, fortunately that USB could be formatted.
    :)

What was it? How did you get it to work?

Using "refresh" nothing happens, and using "phlash16" I get the error message:
    "File open failed on c:\clevo\bios.wph"

I have tried both the 10-bios and the 11-bios with no success.

    for bios v 11, you need to use "phlash16 /x /c /mfg /mode=3 57RU_11.WPH"
for v10, just change it to 57ru_10.wph

Does the 11-bios include the missing-key-while-typing fix?

Ok, thank you again! It worked like a charm.
    :D

It will be great to write things only once without going back filling the gaps of missing letters.

By the way, how did you know what command to write? Is it common knowledge? Clevo doesn't share much info about this.

sorry i got here late but it seems you figured it out. thanks theriko lmk if i can still help any more though

yeah clevo is locked up tight on this kind of stuff. to know what to type its simple you need to extract or burn the iso then look at it to see what the .exe or bat refresh file is. not to hard

so i go the have the bootable flash drive. but im confused about what to do next though...

i dumped my original bios using gpu-z so i can have a backup, but it saved as a .bin. doesnt it need to be a .rom? how do i get it to be the filetype i need?

i got NVflash but im not sure which directory im supposed to put the files in. the guide above have a C: folder and a C:/clevo> folder. which does it go into?

i have overclocked bios .rom file file which folder does it go into?

the guide also says that once in bios and at the C:/clevo folder you just type refresh, but i thought you need to type -5 -6 and then the filename of the bios to want to execute... which is it?

    right...

in order to make your saved bios usable by nvflash, you need to open it in nibitor and save it as a .rom

when you have a bootable flash drive, it doesn not matter whether the files are in the root drive or in a folder as long as all the .rom files are in the same folder as nvflash.exe and cwsdpmi.exe

the refresh command implies that you have downloaded the update from clevo/your reseller. You need to type "nvflash yourbios.rom" where yourbios.rom is the bios file you want to flash whether it be your backup or an OC'ed one. if you are flashing a bios from a card that is a different revision than yours (not usually a good idea) then you need the "nvflash -4 -5 -6 yourbios.rom" otherwise you shouldn't need those commands

Hallo ,I have a following problem : almost everytime I start a game ( Call of duty 2 or World of Warcraft) my system crashes, green lines appear which deform the whole image .
Sometimes the screen turns black and the following message appears:

    Hardware malfunction
    Call your vendor for support
    the system has halted

I have to restart my system then to get rid of this problem. I run my games in 1920 -1200.

MY notebook : Nexoc Osiris E705 III T9300(Vista Ultimate 64bit)
    Geforce 8800m GTX (driver 167.44)
    Clevo 570RU

What should I do to solve this problem?

It sounds like your video card is dying and/or mostly dead. I would check temperatures with CPUID HW Monitor (any large gpu spikes fast = indicates some sort of GPU failure, and since the nVidia manufacturing issues are solder/heat related, this would be a good way to see if this is the case). Then you should update your video drivers to the latest ones, and possibly reinstall your OS and/or run various games from another OS install, to make sure it's not a driver or install issue. Then I would contact your vendor, hope you have a warranty, and/or replace the video card if none of the above works.

oh , thank you for your quick reply :p
I dont think the crashing is caused due to temperature issues ,since the crashes occured even after 15 minutes of notebook´s runtime.
But the systemcrash occurs ONLY when I try to start a game(and this NOT always), not when I use my notebook for other purposes (e.g. surfing in Internet ).

I cant upgrade my video driver higher than version 167.44 :( It says : your system is not compatible with this driver (e.g version 177 or 178)

go to laptopvideo2go and download 177.92, then also download the "modded inf" (linked next to the driver downloads), then extract the driver, copy the modded inf over the original one and it'll install fine :)

    Here what I got :
    Problem caused by computer hardware

You received this message because hardware or software in your computer caused Windows to shut down unexpectedly and restart. This is a serious problem, commonly referred to as a stop error or blue screen.

    Troubleshooting

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you have received this error more than once, we recommend that you do the following:

Back up your files to avoid data loss in case of a complete hardware failure.

Contact the original manufacturer of your computer to determine the specific component which is failing.

How do I find my computer manufacturer (OEM)?

Click the Start button , type msinfo32 in the Search box, and then press ENTER. Your computer OEM is listed as the System Manufacturer in the right pane of the System Information window.

Click to go online to see contact information for most computer manufacturers

OK, i have D901C and after i installed 8800M GTX SLI upgrade kit to my notebook like in manual then i started up my notebook with AC on and went to BIOS to change boot order like needed. Then i inserted dvd with bios upgrades and after restart it started to upgrade my bios. Everything went smoothly and i didn't push any buttons until the part it shoult have boot up windows. Instead of booting up windows there was just a black screen. I did hard restart on my power buttonand then i realized that it doesn't boot even dvd device (tried win cd and bios update dvd).
On diagnostics screen was BIOS and vBIOS: shadowed.
I can enter bios correctly but after that it's just black screen.
Different hard drive and even with single VGA (old one) didn't wake up my notebook.

Now i'm here and can't get my bootable USB stick to work. I'm new on this so maby i did something wrong.

Could anyone give me the write files to put on usb stick so i could be sure it should work.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

1: are you running in dos? (NOT command prompt)

2: did you unzip all of the files in the zip folder to the same directory?

3: where did you get the bios files from?

well when i try to make a bootable usb i get this error

"There are no valid DOS system files at the specified location"

I extracted 86TU0808.rar to a folder named "bootme" in the c directory and gave the location of bootme directory as the target for DOS system file location when asked for in the hp usb disk storage program that i was told to use.

I am followin the first post in this thread and downloaded the files from the rapidshare links provided there.

So some one please help me out

the files in 86tu0808.zip are not the bootable files, they are the flash files. You need the files from the linked bootme.zip to make the bootable stick, then put the files from 86tu0808.zip onto the stick after that.

Hi zfactor, im running an hp pavilion dv4, I also have a wd 500gig scorpio blue sata hard drive that I'm willing to use as a external drive. I tryed to flash my laptop with your instructions to put on the usb stick as a boot up, but I dont know if I have the flash files right. I got stuck after I keyed the command cd\clevo, then came up as C:\CLEVO, then I keyed prompt refresh, no action occurred same with the phlash16.

please I need your help and I'm running out of space on my laptop.

you can also email me at [email protected]

    I appreciate your support.

Firstly, why do you need to flash your bios, does the external drive not work with the current bios?

Which paviulion dv4 have you got? (should be dv4-xxxx)

Where did you get your new BIOS files from?

What are your new bios files called?

My laptop is by Rock and when I boot up shows the Rock logo.
I can't find any bios files on the Rock website so should I just use the bios linked above or does it need to be from Rock.
What's the latest version so I can check it against my version when I get home tonight.
    Thanks

If you flash the versions from clevo, they will work fine, but you will lose the rock logo at boot.

    Latest BIOS for M860TU:

    BIOS 1.01.13
    KBC/EC 1.00.10

.13 BIOS apparently solves one of the high pitched noise causes, but certainly not for everyone, kbc.10 solves some of the fn keys not working in dos mode. If you have either of these problems, then flash them, otherwise I wouldn't bother

    Hi,

I need your help. I’m going through a pain, as most of you here have once experienced. My laptop Pavilion dv 9548 ca, nVidia 8600 GS with Vista Ultimate 64 collapsed after a BIOS flash.
After installing several Widows updates online, including nVidia, I’ve updated my BIOS version F.58A to latest F.59A. After installing, the computer shut down. I wasn’t able to restart it. All I see is the standard black screen.
    1. AC, battery flashes, fan, DVD drive all work and have been checked. I have reseated memory modules, with no success.
    2. A random IT specialist arrived & has tried this method:
„Now you have BOOT floppy with phlash 1.6.5.4 and your BIOS file.
    1. Take out bartery.
    2. Unplug power cable.
    3. Plug In floppy drive.
    4. Insert floppy disc.
    5. Now hold Win+B/FnB keks and insert power cable and push power button while holding down Win+B/Fn+B keys.
    6. After 3 sec let go buttons.

Floppy drive should start working. Not less than 30 sec. It indicates that flashing has begun. Or if your BIOS makes sound then you can observe flashing by sound.
Give it time to flash, better to wait ~10 min.”

Please note, the it specialist included in the rescue disk the BIOS.wph from F.57 version.
1 try: with USB floppy on right-front USB port with fn+B keys,
2 try: with USB floppy on left-front USB port with Win+B keys,
    3 try: CD ROM drive.
All failed. Because I have flashed my BIOS with success few times before. He suspects that BIOS chip will probably have to be replaced and that it’s surface mounted on the Quanta 30C motherboard.
As an amateur with some basic knowledge, I find all the rescue methods confusing. For example, I’ve read that some added Vgabios.exe, BIOS.bak copied from the SATA drive to rescue image disk, parallel port, others used different devices and files to flash, and others different procedures. I feel that someone who started-up the same model or one with same hardware can help. However, because of my basic knowledge I would appreciate precise instructions and a proven image of a rescue disk.
This is my only hope before you know what. Please help: [email protected].
