i tested the BD drive and i put in a Dark Knight, and next thing that happened is some sore of PowerDVD crap popped up, and says i need to download an update. Did that, doesn't work, and window media player won't read BD.

ANY free players that recoginze blu-ray?

not sure of any free players but if you buy blu-ray its advised to get Cyberlink Power DVD 10 Ultra 3D/BluRay/DVD Playback as well.

The only other (and IMHO better) real alternative to PowerDVD is Arcsoft Total Media Theatre (not freeware). Unlike PowerDVD, TMT can also play the movie from the plain folder structure of the Blu-Ray...

With PowerDVD I get black screens. It produces sound but no picture for me. TMT works flawlessly for every possible HD media (including 3D stuff), though.

Now, when I think about it, you could try VLC. The latest versions successfully read the folder structures of Blu-Rays. But you will need some good cpu power there, especially under Windows.

I am almost able to play the folder structures of Blu-Rays with my T7400, and T9800 is a beast compared to T7400, so I think it should definitely be able to cope. However, I am not sure the software will be able to cope. Two things to consider:

    1) At the moment, I don´t have the opportunity to test VLC with Blu-Ray folder structures on a more powerful cpus than the one in my signature. My cpu does not get full utilization according to taskmanager, yet the video is still very choppy. I can´t tell about VLC performance under Linux, either, because I don´t have my Arch anymore (out of free space under Windows).

    2) In order for VLC to be able to play Blu-Rays, one first needs to have treated them with AnyDVD HD... It is not a free program, so I guess TMT3 would be in that case still the better alternative.
