    Hi

As in the topic. I struggle to play/watch mkv movies through hdmi (which are 60fps) smoothly :(
Hardware can not be the issue (3740 cpu, 16gig ram, radeon 9700, ssd).
I tried few players - vlc , kmplayer etc and most of the times movies are not smooth. Looks like players loosing , skipping some frames.
CPU usage not going even over 50%.

    Any suggestions ?

I would honestly recommend you take the time and create a ramdrive and try to play the movie from it, just to figure out if it's a bitrate issue (maybe your ssd isn't functioning properly) or a decoding issue (some bad conflicting codecs).

Actually I record some gameplay in 60FPS/1080p, and watching the clips in VLC or even Windows Media Player is equally smooth. I'm using a DVI cable though... but as far as I know there should be no problem with HDMI unless it's a 3D movie.

Also if I edit the footage in Sony Vegas and render it to 30FPS for youtube, I notice a drop of smoothness, so VLC/WMP can definately handle 60FPS videos.

If you happen to watch 60FPS videos online, make sure to disable Hardware Acceleration in your browser/ Catalyst Control Center.

You could also try running a light game in the background while watching to "force" the full 3D clocks of your Graphics Card in case it doesn't upclock properly.

How do you have a 9700 and an Ivy Bridge in one laptop?

    It was likely a mix-up of the 7970M ;)

Although I remember the old 9700, was actually a 9600 based core where as the 9800 was a 9800. Good times.
