That sounds more like heat or power draw issue.

As for which driver, I can't help you. My 8800M is still running on 186.

ok, power issue? it's brand new!

is my standard power adapter too weak or what? it should be 120 watt or something...

Or is it where you plug that thing into? do you have to plug it into a wall?

Ok, what can i do about heat? it is not overclocked at all!

Try the 260.99 from the nvidia site. If at first you can't install, go to the extraction folder and put the modded inf from lv2g then you should be able to install fine.

No idea why it would be shutting off...what kind of processor does your 8690 have? And why do you absolutely have to have drivers now, why not just wait until nvidia's next driver release supports the 470M?

    it has a 740QM, nothing too power-hungry...

and the 261.00 is the only driver i can actually install, other recent ones DON't HAVE modded INFs to go along with it.

Actually, the modded inf from the 261.00 drivers work with the 260.99. Just put the inf in the 260.99 extracted folder. They are great drivers.

No they don't work....not with the clevo w860cu / sager 8690's anyway. I have a brand new 460m installed and basically we are restricted to sager's version of 259.39 or the 261.00 with the modified INF (but it's a piece of crap). I did your recommendation and took the inf from the 261.00 and replaced it in the 260.99 directory and it didn't work. :(

Hmm thats annoying. Sorry it didn't work. Have you tried emailing nvidia about it? Perhaps they'll implement it if you flag it up with them.

Yes, it's important that nvidia knows they need to have driver support for all of their products, so email them about it as soon as you can.

In the mean time have you tried the 262.99 ones from lv2g? Someone over at alienware had problems with his new 460m and that driver worked.

no I haven't...but seeing that the 259.39 seems to be working ok for now...i'd rather not use a desktop driver that would probably make my display not able to dim anymore (like the 261.00 did). I just wish somebody would modify the INF for the 260.99 to work properly with the sager 8690 / clevo w860cu's! :(

I've edited the strings from the 262 version to support the 260 try it out and be sure to change the extension to .inf although I have no guarantee it works.

I read through this thread, and unless I missed it, you didn't post your temps. Run HWMonitor in the background during a 3DMark run or five minute run of Darksiders and post your temps.

Thanks for the edit...but sadly, it didn't take. :( I changed the extension to .inf and replaced the nv_disp.inf file with yours but no go. Oh well...maybe someday nvidia will make a compatible driver.....

maybe try editing the strings from the 261 inf file? I dont know if it's the same as the 262 or not, but it's worth a go.

Have you guys been trying both ways of installing drivers? By that I mean using the setup file and if that does not work, going to device manager selecting the video card and updating the driver through update driver? If I recall that is the only way I could get the driver install on my laptop.

    Just a thought

HA! IT WORKED! :D I used your .inf file ( widezu69) and used the have-disk method listed here: Have-Disk method for Windows 7 / Vista - LaptopVideo2Go Forums. I am successfully on 260.99 according to GPU-z! thanks all for the advice!

When using the have-disk method you will be asked to select the .inf file to install the driver. I just ended up selecting the modified .inf file that I replaced the original file with located in the display driver folder of the 260.99 driver. Anyway...hopefully this helps!!

Yes...It wont allow me to use nvidia control panel. Also it will not allow me to dim my display. I ended going back to the 259.39. :(

the way that I got the 260.99 driver to work does not allow you to dim the screen or use nvidia control panel. So, I ended up going back to the sager 259.39 from their website.

There is probably some way to jimmy-rig it to work, but I've gotten my hopes dashed to the point that I will probably just wait until nvidia releases a driver that will actually work with the 460m / 470m's (without having to mod anything).

It will probably be included in the nvidia inf in the next release or 2, it's often like that with new cards.

hmm.. noob question guys and it sound really stupid but got to ask,
from what i understood in this thread, does that mean that nvidia doesn't support the 460m/470m GTX cards yet in there drivers, and that sager is modifing the existing drivers to work with those 2 cards ??? and so we will have to wait for nvidia next drivers release to be able to update from the stoke drivers ?? am i getting all of that right ??

I hope they release the drivers for the 470m soon, and hopefully the HD audio drivers that come with can improve the crappy (stock drivers, with no bass whatsoever) sound in my NP8690 currently...

probably nvidia wont release the new drivers until its finish releasing its new cards and have them all included and supported in the new drivers and that mean we will wait for a while before that happen 2 month approximately, as it will mark the end of the year and also the "intruducing the fastest GPU (again)" period xD anyway lets pray and send angry emails to them xD until we recieve what we deserve (making a protest xDDD) WHOSE WITH ME !!!
