This is my first post and sorry if this discomforts anyone (some high post members did in other forums)

I have decided to buy a gaming laptop in Korea. I live in New Zealand but I know somebody who will be coming into New Zealand so i can ask him to carry laptop pretending to be the owner of the laptop (this is to avoid the import duty tax).

    My two options are:

    1. Hansung (rebranded Clevo in Korea) with 780m SLI 8gb ram with 2x128gb SSD. FHD screen. 17'3 inch (3000usd TOTAL with no TAX)

    2. Clevo from xoticpc with 780m SLI 120hz screen 12GB ram with no SSD. 17'3 inch. (2800usd raw + import fee (200usd) + tax (300usd)) 3300usd<Total<3500usd

They are the same brand so they both are user upgradable. Question is, would it worth picking 120hz screen over 256gb of SSD by paying 300usd more? I heard 120HZ screens are way smoother and hard to go back to normal screens when u experience the nature of 120hz.

I need some tips, in terms of price.

I would get the 120hz screen now then add a SSD later. While there will be a bigger difference from a HDD to a SSD vs a 60hz to 120hz, its much easier to add a SSD later down the road (as long as you're comfortable doing so)

P.S it has nothing to do with that option coming from us, I promise ;)

For gaming the 120hz screen will make a big impact and adding the SSD later is FAR easier than the screen so i'll back Hutsady's recommendation.

Not sure why xoticpc is charging you tax but either way option 1 is the better deal. You can buy the led separate for less than $150 and possibly sell the old one.

It wont be xotic, a country will typically charge local tax + duty as the package arrives in the country.

Either option will leave you with very costly warranty support if you need to send it in. Are there no Clevo dealers in New Zealand that can compete in price?

thank you so much for the replies. They mean a lot to me.
I was quite into buying it from Korea since it is much easier and i will get it faster.

I am just not familiar with xoticpc but i heard good feedbacks about them.
thanks i ll definitely refer to your replies.

so i ve decided to buy it from xoticpc just for 120hz screen. But as i surfed through xoticpc, there are other laptops that make me jealous. If i buy 60hz screen with dual 780m SLI mode in Sager NP9390 model, would i be able to connect to an external display monitor that runs at 120hz?

I heard HDMI doesnt usually support 120hz, but u need to have display ports w/e.

I believe you need a DVI connection for 120Hz signal to external monitor. They are also pretty expensive, $300+ in US.

No, you would use a displayport cable and the connection.
