Tried to play a video podcast in iTunes and the computer went BSOD. It's the second time it happens while I use iTunes. I didnt catch the error in any detail. Any idea how to recover an error report in Vista?

Computer specs in sig. Plz help!

iTunes is a piece of crap, but it shouldn't be able to take down the entire OS. Your computer is likely having video driver issues.

To access the Windows log for errors, go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > select Event Viewer snap-in.

Unfortunately, there are no logs of the error. The only thing i could find is the exact time the error took place and the log of the windows error report having no success. I can access the windows error reporting files, would that help?

EDIT: I had a look at those files. The only two files I could access have my system information on it. No info regarding the error. I suspect the error info is held within the .WER and .DMP files (the latter being the result of the memory dump when the bluescreen took place). I would also just like to add that once the computer restarted windows normally, iTunes does work, and although it IS a piece of crap I don't know what else to use for my Podcasts

Interesting... I did a little searching and it looks like iTunes does cause Vista to crash altogether... so I underestimated how crappy it is. BSODs can be caused either by choppy

Apple's troubleshooting document for iTunes video playback under Vista:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1718?viewlocale=en_US

    A couple of suggestions:
    - disable ReadyBoost service
    - reinstall iTunes with a fixed version from Apple's website
    - downgrade iTunes to an earlier version

The log is in the minidump folder inside the windows folder but you'll need the windows debug console and proper symbols pack to actually read it.

    Thanks guys.

Bog - I'll look into your suggestions. I suppose it doesn't help that I'm running the 64bit Vista.

Could any of you suggest me an alternative player that can keep my podcasts organised?

I think you should just use Media Player Classic and Quicktime Alternative to play any video files that iTunes plays.

Have both! but theres still no alternative solution for podcasts, which is the only thing i use itunes for.

Anyway its still playing up. Now it crashed my audio driver and i can't hear a thing, video or sound.

And it won't download any new podcasts. Error 403, "unknown error, make sure the url is correct and you are connected to the internet" And then they say Windows is buggy. Pah!

To any mods: maybe this is more pertinent to the software section. Feel free to move the thread if you so wish.

Have you tried the suggestions I recommended? The Apple support link also has a number of troubleshooting suggestions.

Did everything but a reversion to a previous iTunes, did a full cleanup of the previous installation, I don't have readyboost, installed the latest version of iTunes x64 again, it worked fine until now. Bluescreened again, this time I paid attention to the error.

    SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION

I'm not sure how to enterpret that. an iTunes system service or a system service? because one interpreation would imply software error, the other a driver error
