Hi.

John. -

-
just one small question....
just what might be the blind flash recovery key combo for a sager/clevo? -
Hello!
I have HP Pavilion DV6449us. After bios update crash it is not booting again. It turns on but restarts after few seconds. Got USB floppy drive and tried all possible methods but no success. Still same black screen and reboots. Any suggestions?
Thank you! -
The first two links aren't working because, so far as I can tell, the NBR software truncated the urls.
From what I can reconstruct, I believe the full url for the second link is: http://rapidshare.com/files/156744719/phlash16_1.6.5.4.rar.html
For the second, I believe the link is: http://rapidshare.com/files/149466379/Boot_Block_Jumper.pdf
(n.b., I found 'em on this digital life forum thread: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showpost.php?p=26249&postcount=1) -
thx for the info Zfactor and Shyster, im sure this will be needed when i screw up my puter
-
more will be needed if it takes a key combination to invoke the bios recover option. which no one seems to have. because the ones listed do not work for a np9262. that's for sure.
-
In step3 where it says "Rename your BIOS file to bios.wph and copy it to your: Flopy, USB Flopy"
What file should i rename to bios.wph.
First of all where is my BIOS file?? what is it named as? Is it located in 86TU0808.zip
and finally is the version compatible with the one listed in method1??
If possible i am going to try it out in that order so I would be glad if the how to could be re-written
or modified so that nothing is left out and is complete in itself. That would be a great favour.
Can some one help this poor guy out ?? :'(
I just dont want to do it wrong agian. Can some one tell me please???
I am a bit too hesitant. I absolutely want to be sure...... -
Hello!
After long 2 nights I have finally recovered my HP Pavilion DV6449us. And I want to share how I did that.
Things you need:
- Floppy disc.
- USB Floppy drive.
- Phoenix Recovery Disc creator (Download here, Mirror1, Mirror2).
- Bios update file (From official web site HP Support & Drivers).
When you got all of mentioned:
- Unrar Phoenix Recovery Disc creator (It contains CRISDISK (folder) Autoexec.bat and PHLASH16.TXT).
- Run ...\Phoenix Recovery\CRISDISK\wincris.exe.
- Select Create Minidos Crisis Disc.
- Format it and it will copy 3 files to your new boot floppy (bios.wph, minidos.sys, phlash16.exe).
- Now you need to replace bios.wph (on floppy) with yours bios file. Extract spxxxxx.exe (Bios update) which you downloaded from official web site with winrar (right click on it and "Extract to...").
- There you will find *.wph/bios.wph file. Copy it to floppy and replace old one. Its name must be bios.wph. Or it wont boot.
- After that in archive "Phoenix Recovery Disc creator" is file autoexec.bat. You can modify it as you wish to add extra parameters for flashing process. Parrameters are listed in file PHLASH16.TXT in "Phoenix Recovery Disc creator" archive. Or you can leave it as it is.
Now you have boot floppy with phlash 1.6.5.4 and your bios file.
- Take out battery.
- Unplug power cable.
- Plug in floppy drive.
- Insert floppy disc.
- Now hold Win+B/FN+B keys and insert power cable and push power button while holding down Win+B/FN+B keys.
- After 3 sec let go buttons.
Floppy drive should start working. Not less then 30sec. It indicates that flashing has begun. Or if your bios makes sound than you can observe flashing by sound.
Give it time to flash, better to wait ~10min.
Good luck! Hope it helps. -
great work ^^^ sorry i was away for a couple days. i had some familt stuff to tend to. ill update the links.. i wish i saw your post sooner to help you out. but i am glad you fixed it.
-
i have done recoveries on quite a few makes and models, but so far...i have yet to do my np 9262. and none of them commands seem to work on it either.
-

-
Nice guide!
Be interested to know the flash recovery key presses for the Dell Mini if you could guess...
BTW: The phlash16 16-bit DOS app you linked is rather dated...
http://stashbox.org/browse.php?q=flashBIOS
Phlash16 v1.6.8.7 dated 4/1/08 included in the above file... -
thanks ill update the post with that

first 2 links fixed

Hi, nobody knows how to iniate (if there is any) recovery method for a Dell Inspiron 6400? Thanks in advance.
-
Hi,
I need your help. Im going through a pain. My laptop Pavilion dv 9548 ca, nVidia 8600 GS with Vista Ultimate 64 collapsed after a BIOS flash.
After installing several Widows updates online, including nVidia, Ive updated my BIOS version F.58A to latest F.59A. After installing, the computer shut down. I wasnt able to restart it. All I see is the standard black screen.
1. AC, battery flashes, fan, DVD drive all work and have been checked. I have reseated memory modules, with no success.
2. A random IT specialist arrived & has tried this method:
Now you have BOOT floppy with phlash 1.6.5.4 and your BIOS file.
1. Take out bartery.
2. Unplug power cable.
3. Plug In floppy drive.
4. Insert floppy disc.
5. Now hold Win+B/FnB keks and insert power cable and push power button while holding down Win+B/Fn+B keys.
6. After 3 sec let go buttons.
Floppy drive should start working. Not less than 30 sec. It indicates that flashing has begun. Or if your BIOS makes sound then you can observe flashing by sound.
Give it time to flash, better to wait ~10 min.
Please note, the it specialist included in the rescue disk the BIOS.wph from F.57 version.
1 try: with USB floppy on right-front USB port with fn+B keys,
2 try: with USB floppy on left-front USB port with Win+B keys,
3 try: CD ROM drive.
All failed. Because I have flashed my BIOS with success few times before. He suspects that BIOS chip will probably have to be replaced and that its surface mounted on the Quanta 30C motherboard.
As an amateur with some basic knowledge, I find all the rescue methods confusing. For example, Ive read that some added Vgabios.exe, BIOS.bak copied from the SATA drive to rescue image disk, others used different devices and files to flash, and others different procedures. I feel that someone who started-up the same model or one with same hardware can help. However, because of my basic knowledge I would appreciate precise instructions and a proven image of a rescue disk.
This is my only hope before ypu all know what. Please help: [email protected]. -
I ve tried all method but my Toshiba A200 still not booting, all that happens is the fan, power indicator & DVD-ROM showing signs of life. I am so confuse help needed. The HP DriveKey utility do not see my usb floppy but the command line interface sees my usb floppy. I ve followed ur instructions on recovery methods on the target system(Toshiba A200) but the usb floppy only flashes for like 3-5 seconds twice then nothing(is that right?). Please help needed, I hope i can still make this work?
-
do you have the buttons on the left side of the keyboard? specifically one that looks like a music note? i may be able to help if so..
-
No, but i have a music note on the top side of the keyboard by the power button. Other buttons on the row are the web, play, stop, forward and backward. Thanks

try pressing the music note button and power button and the same time. so hit music not and very quickly after press power. now you may hear the fans spin up lights come on. did you? if so press power again quickly and see if it boots. lmk
-
This power & Music button thing is done after or before the flashing? I have tried this key combination you suggested but it is not yet booting up(I believe i did it right), the fans spins as well as the lights did come up . Is the rom in the bios-20070913164617 folder i ll use or the roms inside the flashBIOSv1.3? What do i do with boot block jumper file?

I tried to flash a new notebook graphic card with a compatible ATI-vbios for my notebook... This card was said to be compatible to my book. I put of my old card, and put in the new one...I wanted to do a blind-vbios-flash...
my computer has only one bios, for system and my old graphic card. I wanted to flash the new ati-graphic card with a separate ati bios...
I tried it many times, but it didnt work, it was hard because it was a blind flash...
Well, I tried it four - five times to flash the ati bios and the result is main-bios-crash, or mainboard error, or ... I m not sure!??!
First I dont get any monitor signal after trying to flash HD3650... My old card doesnt show any signal, my pc starts, the fan turns on 1 time and I even cant shutdown the notebook. I have to take off my battery or plug off, you cant restart.. nothing... I thought the flashing could have destroyed my main-bios... so I bought a usb floppy-disk drive and tried these methods: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=326954, also with phoenix bios recovery software... when I push "Fn+B" the fan goes on and work during the whole time like it should, but USB, Floppy USB, CD-ROM Drive is not working.... My floppy usb drive shold then start and flash the mainboard bios, but it doesnt.. If I try to put in an usb-stick in my pc, no matter in bios recovery modus or bormal start modus: there is a small led on the usb-stick(for example) it goes for a second on and then it turns off...
However I think there is no power-problem (battery works and charges) main power works... I tried also to take off the battery... no result...
USB stick- gets power for a while... there is a small led on the usb-stick(for example) and then gets off... if I put hard drive in... it do something and gets power.... CD-Rom Drive never gets any power!
Mainboard-defect?
any suggestions?
my notebook is worthless now...
Why do my USB HUBs dont get enough energy? -

Method 2 verified as functioning on Acer 5570z using FN+ESC and a USB Floppy. Worked twice, thank goodness!
Method 1 did not function in a critical BIOS situation, but did work when VGABIOS was corrupted. -
Hallo
Any key combination known for Samsung laptops ?
None of the 4 methods work on my r720. -
What the key combination for Dell Mini 1010? Fn+B doesn't work!
Is it really necessary to use a USB floppy disk? Or can I try with a USB flash drive? -
Hello, I have a HP Pavilion dv6915nr. After pressing fn+b win+b the flash drive begins to read. After a longer while my computer beeps, then another sound is heard like a bad speaker connection then a couple more beeps. Afterward, the flash drive light just blinks slowly. I am unsure if I am doing something right? Any help would be appreciated. I still have a black screen at start up, so I guess my bios is still messed up.
-
Hello, I have Dv6700 (Dv6898CA). I recently upgraded from vista to windows 7 and found my blue ray drive not working anymore. I got HP online support to help me and they gave me the program to flash my bios. BIG MISTAKE. now it is a blank screeen. The screen isnt even turning on - therefore it is blank/black right now.
Trying the crisis recovery using a USB flash drive (i don't have a usb floppy drive). I used the Phoenix Crisis program and selected the "extract" option into my USB flash drive. I replaced the Bios file with the one from HP website (F58 A I believe). I plug it into a usb port, press and hold window-key+b and plug in the AC and press the power.
The laptop will beep beep beep about 10 times.....
is that normal? I waited 10 minutes and restart, but still nothing happens
please help
edit: should the USB bootable drive light up as there is power? -
Hello, I have Acer Aspire 4810T. I tried downgrading the firmware v1.35 to 1.20 with winflash and the operation was successful, but laptop died ...
I had downloaded the laptop service manual. I found the references to phoenix crisis disk inside the manual ... Something is not right - Acer 4810T uses Insyde H2O bios, not a phoenix one.
The bios size is 2MB, so it doesn't fit a floppy size ...
When i tried the combination Fn+ESC and power on, the power button lights white and the dvdwriter is accessed.
I tried all methods for flash stick, but flash is not accessed
So I guess the only method is to find a way to make a bootable crisis recovery CD -
I made a bootable CD using an external usb FDD and Nero
I put there all needed files (FLA.exe, Flash.bat, Fla.exe, minidos.sys, phlash16.exe) and name variations for the bios file :
354G.fd
BIOS.WPH
GPC_.fd
GPC_V135.bin
GPC_V135.fd
JM41.fd
JM41X64.fd
MS22.fd
XXXXXXX.FD
It doesn't work ... -
My HP is DV6670ep it just beeps forever...
Can anyone help? Thanks in advance -
Thanks for the information I've used this process a few times and worked great but I have a NB305-N410 which goes through the steps but will not initialize the floppy. When holding the Fn+B keys and plugging in the power it flashes the lights like the rest did, the fan comes on at high speed but that's it will not start the floppy or a USB drive. Tried all sorts of timing but will not start the floppy. When plugged I get a flash from the usb drive or a cd drive but soon as I start push the start button no access to the plug in (floppy/usb /cd). I suspect the chip is totally shot and needs a new one.
-
John I have a Gateway that the normal nightmare happened to with the bios update. It powers on, CD drive lights up the HD lights as it spins up, Flash drives light up when started, but nothing past that for hours with the occasional HD light blinking everytime the CD spins up. I was praying that you had some knowledge of Gateway Bios and if the methods used here are comparable to those for the Gateway paperweight. At this point I am just trying to salvage the laptop AT ALL, even formatted the hard disk and am trying to use it to bios flash with the files (BIOS.WPH, CRIS etc.) but no success. I am up for anything you can think of.
Thanks! SMG -
I followed method 2 and my damn HP 6715s booted from floppy and was busy about 3 Minutes - then it rebooted. But now i'm still receiving a black screen and it won't boot from floppy anymore when i hold down win + b...
any ideas why ? -
I cant tell whats the differeence between Method 1,2,3,4?
they instructions look the same -
maybe a bit off topic, but it's been confirmed that sager laptops(thinking of most recent from 570ru and up) can not be recovered with out having some kind of tool that attaches itself to the motherboard which only clevo provides. unless anybody cares to provide information otherwise, if you bad flash bios a sager/clevo you can't recover it with out the tool.
-
I have similar problem just now - have tried to update my Alienware M17 R1 bios to 029 z's and bricked the laptop - it wasn't starting up at all as you would expect. After pushing the reset button it just stays on permanently - pushing the power button just turns restarts it.
I have tried holding the end key but it doesn't work (to start with there is no end key so had to hold Fn+right arrow). Fn-b doesn't work either - baybe I should try a different combination?
Any ideas on how could I fix it?
Any help would be much appreciated! -
Fixed my Gateway MX3410 laptop with bios 79.10 update which would now freeze during post at initializing mouse step..
Pulled cmos battery and powered up. Was able to now boot a USB floppy and loaded Windows.
Powered down and put battery back in and selected default bios settings.
Fixed. -
Anyone know if this method will work to flash a video bios? Can the system bios files be replaced with vbios and the autoexec changed to auto flash the video card?
-
hi will this work on ibm thinkpad t60 type 8447 thanks

Hello, Thank you for the post the information it's really useful, but I have another problem and I hope someone can help me.
My problem it's with a Toshiba Satelite Laptop, after a bios actualization it stop of working so I found this topic and follow the steps, download the bios, use the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool to have a USB Floppy, and then I saved the file in the USB Floppy, plug the power while holding Fn+ESC and the USB start (the led in the USB indicated that the USB was being read), even the cooler start, and after half hour I pressed the power buttom but anything happend, then I realize that I had to unzip the bios and change it to bios.wph. So It made that and tried again but now the laptop doesn't read the USB I try the same steps but it just does not read it, if any could help me it would be really nice.
I'm sorry if I made some mistakes writting English is not my main language. -
try reformatting your flash drive and making sure it is FAT32, then put your unzipped BIOS folder (everything that was extracted) back into your flash drive.
Try a different USB port too.
Also, given that you have a Toshiba laptop, feel free to check out this section:
Toshiba Laptop Forums - Toshiba Notebook Computer Discussions
Lastly, welcome to the NBR forums! Please feel free to ask the folks in these forums, there should be plenty of help, if you know where to look. -
In case you Killed your BIOS and nothing helped - as me with my HP dv6500 (USB floppy also not) there is only one last way to make the NB working again - replace the wrong eprom - that's what I did. My was only - 8-pin chip soldered on the MB and since I had old MB I replaced it by that one from the old MB (same DV6500) and the NB is live again.
Here is a link with helping pictures - how to locate the chip. You can order spare BIOS chip there as well. For some 15 EUR you can revive bricked NB again. Good Luck !

Greetings.
I have just updated (read: bricked!) my Acer TravelMate C111TCi (C110 series) tablet pc with the newest BIOS. Blank screen, no POST. And yeah, it's a Phoenix.
I have already created the Phoenix Crisis disk and put my backup ROM on it as "bios.wph". I have the disk as a Floppy as well as USB drive. The latter was prepared with the HP bootable USB stick tool, putting MiniDOS on it. The floppy disk was pepared with WINCRIS.EXE from the Phoenix crisis recovery disk. What I tried (all these have been tried with AND without the battery installed as well as with floppy AND stick):
- Hold Fn+Esc, plug in power, switch on
- Plug in power, hold Fn+Esc, switch on
- Hold Win+Esc, plug in power, switch on
- Plug in power, hold Win+Esc, switch on
- Hold Fn+B, plug in power, switch on
- Plug in power, hold Fn+B, switch on
- Hold Win+B, plug in power, switch on
- Plug in power, hold Win+B, switch on
- Hold Fn+F, plug in power, switch on
- Plug in power, hold Fn+F, switch on
- Hold Win+F, plug in power, switch on
- Plug in power, hold Win+F, switch on
- Hold W, plug in power, switch on
- Plug in power, hold W, switch on
- Hold W, plug in power, switch on
- Plug in power, hold W, switch on
Any ideas?! I do not know what to try now. I can't change the EEPROM chip as I do not have any spares.
Edit: Oh, and I have a german QWERTZ keyboard layout here, so the BIOS layout may differ from what you get in an OS.. Not sure if it matters. F and B are in the same locations on both US QWERTY and QWERTZ..
Edit 2: Found the BootBlock jumper and set it to "Erasable". Now the machine beeps a few times after powering it on, but the key combos still don't do anything useful. Floppy / Stick are still not being accessed..
The Beep Code:
3 short - 1 short - 4 short - 3 short
