i'm going to be using my laptop for several weeks like a desktop computer, and i dont want to keep the battery plugged in, so would it be safe to just pull it out and store it somewhere, and use AC as my power source?

my main fear is that dust will get into the back of my computer if there is no battery

Yes its safe to use it just on AC. Dust shouldn't be a problem. At least I havent had any.

Just be careful that you don't trip over the power cable. I've done that a few times. :p

edit: Im not using a sager though.

It will not be a problem.

Have a look at the Battery Guide for this kind of information.

If you're worried about the dust, buy a can of compressed air.
I really wouldn't worry too much about the dust, your computer is constantly exposed to it anyway. Just spray some compressed air on it to clean it from any dust before you put it back in.

I just use mine for backup power and unplug the power cord a couple times a week. I have any problems doing that and mine are still going strong after a year.

Most recent batteries have a smart sensor to prevent them from fully charging, but Sager batteries don`t seem to have that.
    My nx9420,close to 2 years old still has a 3-3.5 h battery life,with a 17` screen,1.7 CD CPU and ati x1600 256 mb dedicated video card...damn impressive these HP business laptops,best deal I ever made :)
On my DTR, the sager 5791 I always unplug it at least every 2 days for 8 hours or so. No battery wear so far,so I guess it works.
Keep the battery inside, it`s not like you can`t get another one in a year or 2.

    Than a new laptop? What?

I keep my battery in my notebook since it acts as one of the four legs, but it will not damage your notebook to take it out... The dust? Dust gets in through the fans and every other hole in your computer.
