I hate this glitch, guess i have to type it again,

I got home today and tried to play diablo 3, as soon as i got to the log in screen i noticed alot of lag, a delay for me even typing in my password to the characters showing up on screen. I get in game and my FPS are terrible like 20ish with crossfire 6990's.

I then thought maybe its a d3 problem so i loaded up BF3 and my FPS is in the 10's

I turn off xfire get in diablo 3, no more lag at log in screen, and FPS over 100 again

    is my second card dead?

Depends, what laptop do you have? It doesn't sound like it because your performance wouldn't have changed when you turned off crossfire because you're still only using one card. Are you on battery? And what are your temps?

it may be a software issue, i disabled crossfire, then re-enabled it and my frames didnt plummet but the fps monitor in diablo 3 is so unstable i cant tell if my frames improved or not with and without crossfire enabled, im gonna run 3d mark vantage now and see with both xfire on and off, that should tell me based on the scores no?

ive had issues with the latest CCC lately, first i was getting that the parent application or something crashing all the time so i uninstalled ran driversweeper reinstalled etc and it fixed that problem, now this.

I even rebooted several times and every time my fps are terrible until i disable and re-enable crossfire

I understand some games wont take advantage of crossfire, but taking advantage of crossfire and framerates getting dropped off significantly are two different things.

If it simply didnt take advantage your frame rates would be the same with or without crossfire enabled, when in my case my framerates are like 1/16th when crossfire is enabled from single card performance

With StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3, its good to NOT have crossfire/sli. Here are some details about those games:
1.) They dont support more than two CPU cores (DX9 limitation and stuff)
2.) SLI & Crossfire cause the games to become unstable
3.) Overclocked CPU's cause lag or hanging, sometimes BSOD, so dont OC anything
4.) Some new drivers are degrading performance in those games, so if you have a smooth experience, DONT update your drivers to newer ones.
5.) Old sound card drivers may also cause lag / problems with those games (this has been discussed in the Blizz forums)

So, here is some good advice: turn off crossfire and dont update your drivers to 12.5, as there are problems with the textures for some people.

Since I got my laptop, I never updated my drivers (I think Im running with 10.2 or something) and I never had problems with anything so far.

Wise advice: if something is working, don't update it.

i did also say that i tested if with Battlefield and my FPS were only in the 10's with crossfire enabled, this isnt just occurring with diablo III
