I got a sager np8150 and today my screen just crashed. Now, whenever I try to turn it on the start up screen goes black. I can still see the sager logo when it turns on and can go on it on safe made just fine. Anyone knows if the gpu is dead or if there's another problem?

safe mode for windows work? if yes you probably got a virus that killed your boot order
or the safe mode enable the integrated hd graphic only i dont know for that -
My laptop has a 6990m which has a history with getting fried, which is why i think its a problem with the gpu. Hmm, my friend told me to try reinstalling windows7 since he also thinks a virus might have messed up the boot up process. I'll try that and see if it works, don't got too many important files anyway.

OK so I reinstalled windows 7 and was able to get to the desktop screen without safe mode. However after I restarted it so it could get the driver updates, the screen went black again. Maybe there is a problem with one of the drivers? Going to try re I installing it again without some drivers to see if it works.
EDIT:
Think it really is the gpu =/. On the windows experience index my graphics/gaming graphics are both at 1.0.
Or maybe its because i didn't install any of the drivers yet?(Don't know which driver is causing the problem so besides the WLAN driver to connect to the internet, i didn't install the other ones. I did try the VGA driver but that just made my start up screen black again so i had to reinstall windows 7 again.. Dont really want to go through this while process more than i already have.) -

Yes if installing the gpu drivers stops windows loading then the gpu is likely dead.

The windows boot from the hd graphic after install it go to the dedicated so yea it dead you can contact sager reseller like xotic pc or sager itself to try to get gpu that fit

If it's an 8150 (Clevo P150HM), then the iGPU isn't enabled as far as I know. Switchable graphics only came in with the EM models. It has to use the 6990m to display anything. Get the latest AMD driver and use that. It is possible the GPU is dying though not quite dead yet. You might also want to check the GPU temperature and if it can run an external display. It could be something as simple as a loose or damaged cable or something a repaste might sort out.

The same issue can arise in a dGPU only setup as before the drivers are installed the CPU (literally the CPU cores) is rendering the screen and the GPU is simply outputting that to the display.
is my gpu dead? sager np8150
