so its approaching the 1 year mark since the np9170 on xoticpc website was released and i finally have enough money to buy the configuration that i want. My only hesitation is its almost been 1 yr and im curious if there's any new development thats currently under way and would be released soon so i wouldnt regret my buy. anyone have any enlightenment on the subject? :hi2:

after searching and reading for sometime im finally stumbling upon some earlier posts that answer my question. so that being said. im wondering if the new gen is mostly cosmetic with minimal hardware advances over the current line, but this new tech would pave the way for something a little more substantial for example nvidias 660m release to 680m which was released late in 2012, so my question now is should i buy the np9170 now with a 680 or just wait. ive been waiting for so long. i dont know if i can wait 6months for legitimate hardware. im going nuts. :D

Sager usually comes out with new models as Intel releases their new CPU's. Haswell is rumored to be released around June/July and we'll probably see new GPU's around then too. There are not actual dates, just all speculation now.

Theres always going to be something new just around the corner. You might as well buy the current hardware, which had its price reduced already as the performance bump in the next gen of upcoming hardware wont be so major anyway.

If Ivy Bridge > Haswell is going to be anything like Nehalem > Sandy Bridge then the upgrade will be pretty big.

that saying is thrown around quite often but its just not true@always something new just around the corner. theres only one cpu/gpu/chipset change a year, and the next one is gonna go down in three months. after that, itll take another 12 months at the very least until something new comes out ;)

@spanexninja: i just stated the same in another thread a moment ago :D

thanks for the replies everyone, so yeah i guess i can wait a little bit longer until pre orders, but will there be any benchmarks for the haswell available before i sign that check? im very skeptical with the gpu's since theres always one dominant gpu in a series of runner ups, the only thing is when the flagship gpu is released compared to its predecessors.

The next Intel architecture is supposed to be a monster change. Haswell may not increase performance significantly, but battery life is supposed to be significantly better.

u mean, how to identify the dominant gpu in the next series? just go by the name pretty much: 780M / 8970M :) and then its just a question of which one of these two will be faster. if u take the past years as a base, its usually nvidia with its top card, although usually just by a few %.
