From the whole review, I found the most important part:

This means a couple of things for me:
1.) I will wait for the clock update. An 3860QM will likely become 2.9ghz-3.9ghz
2.) Gonna grab the 7990m card instead of 7970m, again 10-20% more power on top
3.) Killer Wireless-N 1202 will be out, Im gonna be getting that too
    4.) PROFIT!!!!!

What do you guys think? Good plan, yes? Just as I did with Sandy (look at sig)

well... thing is if theres gonna be a 7990M at all! 7970M is already at 100W, so a slight OC would be in the realm of possibility, but aside from that, whats the 7990M gonna be based on? 7970M already provides the fully unlocked 7870 desktop chip, so only alternative would be an extreeeemely downclocked 7950 desktop. either that or well also get to see the fabled 7890 desktop chip which could then again be used for the 7990M....
lets wait and see! 680M is already out of the race in my opinion, seeing how they postpone it in order to tune the clockrates so as not to lose face completely vs. the 7970M ;) even if they can beat it, itll only be by a slight margin but with double the pricing :p

as for IB, once i heard that i wouldnt be able to upgrade my laptop to it I just got myself a sweet deal on a 2860QM and sold off my 2720QM. that should suffice for the next 1-2 years, seeing that the 2860QM is right between the 3610QM and 3720QM IB models performance-wise :)

a new killer wifi model eh? gotta check that out, might be interesting... ;)

    cheers

The 7970m has 1280 shaders. I smell something like a 7990m with 1536 shaders (or 1440 maybe). The one thing I hate most about this industry is the NDA's. Im sure AMD's roadmap is already set months ago and insiders know whats coming. We are kept in the dark however.

If the 7970m ends up being the final mobile card for the 7000 series, Im gonna upgrade sooner. But there is no way to know for sure..... :(

    There is.
When the 680M releases, AMD is going to counter-attack with a slight rumor expansion towards the internet. That's how it is :p

    btw nice find :D +REP

If you wait too much on the Ivy Bridge clock update you will end up too close to the Haswell architecture release and enjoy your laptop even less.
You should also avoid waiting for a whole laptop just because of an upcoming commodity component such as the wifi card. You could install that later on.

Yep, agreed. No idea when Haswell plans on dropping by, but the clock update might be september-ish. I hear rumors of Intel's roadmap, showing Haswell in late 2013. That can easily change to early-mid 2014 if they run into problems.

The biggest reason to wait would be AMD's 7990m that is also a rumor. If it really offers 10-20% jump over 7970m, this would be big. Imagine, a 10% jump from GTX460m to 560m was 2-5fps difference. Here we could be talking about 10-20fps difference! The more powerful the card is, the bigger the jump of 10-20% would translate into fps.
