OK so after a year of looking for a Dell M1730 I stumbled across the NP9262 on this forum. So glad I did because for the same money you get a whole lot more.

The main reason I want a powerhouse was for HD video editing. I believe this deskbook will do it. The only thing I am disappointed about with the sager is the lack of a back lit keyboard. Other than that I think this blows the doors off of everything else and can't figure out why this thing isn't more mainstream?

I actually like how plain looking it is compared to the m1730 because it doesn't scream "STEAL ME". I may look at getting some vinyl for it down the road but that depends.

Any tips or tricks for this thing please send em my way.

    Setup:
17" WUXGA "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright Glossy Screen (1920x1200)

    Intel Core 2 QUAD Q9550 2.83GHz w/ 12MB L2 Cache - 1333MHz FSB

SLI ENABLED DUAL (2) 512MB PCI-Express nVidia GeForce 9800M GT (1024MB Total) w/GDDR3 DX10 Video Cards (User Upgradeable)

    4,096MB DDR2 800 (2 SODIMMS) Dual Channel Memory

    2-200GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache RAID 0

    nice specs.

in your specs, you should consider 320GB 5400rpm drives over the 200GB 7200rpm drives... because they actually perform the same and give you less heat with more storage.

It has been proven that the new generation of 5400rpm drives (320GB and up) have such a high density that their seek times are about the same as the previous generation 7200rpm drives (200GB and below).

So if you are looking at sub-200GB 7200rpm drives, really consider the larger 5400rpm drives... to get more for your money.

That said, the "bang for the buck" HDD at the moment are 320GB 5400rpm drives... for both price and performance.
    :)

Other than that, no Dell notebook can match that system.

Also Should I get a cooling plate for this or just let the stock system take care of it?

Which cooling plate if that is the way to go?

wow nice setup! welcome to the family. backlit keyboard? i don't really get the idea of those.. since your fingers would be on the key while typing, how's the light gonna work at all? haha.. unless you can't type without looking at the keyboard, then those lights might help.. other than that, its more of a 'bling' factor to me.. screams for attention.. this quiet-looking 9262 actually SHOWs performance on the inside.. that's what's most important eh bro?

yeah you should get a cooler.. makes the life of the cooling system easier in your laptop, and most likely would lengthen the life of your laptop.. i'm personally using the zalman nc-2000. pretty good cooler. fits up to 19" screen laptops, nice and snug for the 9262.

if you want, you can purchase 1 HDD from your reseller, then buy a WD scorpio black hdd on your own to add it in. its one of the best HDDs on the market, cool, low power usage, and fast too..
or to save the hassle, just get the ones that come in with the system..

    :)

welcome to the family. you wont regret your purchase.

go for the Zalman NC2000 (thats what i am using for mine) notebook cooler. also note that to keep your laptop fans and cooler running optimally always give it a clean every month to remove the dust that accumulates around the fan area. :D
