since i have the best of luck with my d900t, the gpu has died, again. thinking of getting another d900 but want to make sure the keyboard on the new generation is as good as the old one. anyone that has experience both can chime in here?

also, i assume the sound is worse than the oldler generation since it lacks the subwoofer?

keyboard is very sturdy and no flex

    sound is fine.

I had a sub on my m1710 but am very happy with the sound on this rig.

now with the ability to OC I fully like this notebook.

well there is some flex, just like the d900t since they are identicle ;)

i often ask myself why can't they make a truelly great keyboard with no flex, like the one found on the dell e1505 inspiron or even some of the ibm thinkpads....

oh, btw, the gpu mysteriously came back to life. no more blue lines upon boot and i can now use nvidia drivers....wonder how long it will last before it bellies up again..

    good idea.

I expect graphics cards to die.

    I overclock though.

I went through 5 video cards in my m1710. seriously. :D

I noticed some flex when I received the barebones, but I fixed it by re-seating the metal panel underneath the keyboard... and make sure no wires are popping up to create and bumps on the metal panel... that would create flex when the keyboard is placed back into its position.

And I also made sure the keyboard is flat by looking at the aluminum frame and bending any corners/sides that did not look flat.

gophn, are you implying that you have no keyboard flex? because if you are, then we must be talking about something else or you do not understand or care about what keyboard flex is.

press down firmly on the keys, there will be flex. press down firmly on the dell e1505, the new e series dells, the macbook pro, and the ibm thinkpads (that i saw at office depot) and those machines have no flex, at all. you can slam the keyboard with your fingers while you type and it will be as solid as a rock.

Actually, that's wrong...the Macbook Pro has terrible flex. Go to any Apple store and check them out. It's embarrassing, for Apple. Very cheaply made, and tons of $$$$.

Have you taken yours apart to examine it, check for loose/missing parts, and reseated it?

yes. the d900c has more flex than the d900t/k. there are only 2 screws securing the underplate of the d900c vs. the 4 or 5 screws that hold the d900t/k's plate and on top of that there are heat pipes running underneath it which forces the plate to have a large cut-out around the g and h keys to accomidate this design, so flex is very appearant there.

the older d900t/k are more solidly built and are heavier. the d900c is flimsier and creaks and rattles. but the d900c is lighter, so choose your poison, i guess.

Every keyboard has flex to some degree. The 5793 has flex near the h f6-f9 keys. Although its not noticeable when you are typing it is only noticeable when you apply abnormal pressure then you normally would when using a keyboard.
