My Sager np2096 sometimes freezes randomly. What I mean by freeze is that when I open a program like wmp the program takes forever to open (and usually doesn't open) and it stops responding. Also, in word and excel, I can't open the print window or it freezes.

Is anyone else having this problem with the np2096?

It's not a problem with 2096 IMHO.Look in the processes to see if there is anything abnormal.

Driver problems; my guess would be the audio drivers or the codecs. First look in the device manager to see if any devices are flagged as having problems; next, check your event logs to see if anything got logged that indicates what the source of the problem might be; last, if nothing else works, uninstall and reinstall your drivers; if even that doesn't do it, then, and only then, reinstall the OS.

it can't be a virus. The first day I got the computer, I began browsing around WITHOUT even connecting to the internet and Explorer.exe just randomly stopped responding and had to close. EXPLORER.EXE!!

Did you install all the drivers that came with your computer?

Did you do the initial installation yourself? If so, as the last poster asked, did you make sure you got all the drivers installed properly?

If it started crashing before it ever hit the 'net, then it's almost certainly not a virus, which leaves a corrupt driver or driver conflicts as the most likely source of the crashing.

I have a similar problem, or not really, but anyway, when i watch videos on VLC, I get some random FPS drops and the video lags for a second. Its very annoying. What could be the problem?

When streaming, or otherwise across a network? Most likely network-related polling or deferred procedure calls bumping up the system latency for a second and delaying the video feed just long enough to be noticeable.

Try turning off your wireless and bluetooth to see if that makes any difference.

Also, try turning off the autoplay feature on the CD drive, as the OS will poll the CD drive on a regular basis and that polling might also contribute to system latency.

it's not just wmp or audio and video stuff. i think it might be drivers but how do i tell?

also, word has this error with not detecting the printer or something that it's always trying to do for some reason, and it slows it down when it doesn't detect it or something. I get this window that says something like word hasn't detected a printer or something and continue or something

Ok, before I lose my patience or something silly like that, hows about this: everyone with a problem computer in this thread, go review your event logs, look at the errors, warnings, and information events that were logged, and see if there's anything there that might have anything to do with the lags, jags, and hysterical crying fits (you never know) your computer is experiencing. In particular, look for things like drivers not working, or missing devices (like that wandering printer :D), ok?

Remember, in DIY diagnostics you have two very, very good friends, your event logs, and google.

how do you view the event log? (great idea)

sometimes things just don't work, and there are no error windows. For example, the other days I couldn't open Elder Scrolls Oblivion and ITunes. The processes were in task manager but the things just didn't start.
