In my power settings, I have set it to hibernate on lid close. This worked decently for a bit, now it doesn't work anymore. Everytime I close the lid, it simply turns of the screen. This causes lots of problems because for some reason the laptop still generates lots of heat and when I stick it in my backpack, it becomes extremely hot. And it also pretty much kills my battery life which is really important right now.

I'm looking into getting an eee or something, but right now this is really bothering me.

Hmm that sounds bad. Are you sure you specified Hibernate?

Have you specified hibernate for both battery and AC ?? Also, try changing power state and see if hibernate is set on closing lid for all of them :)

Some programs have a tendency to disable hibernate. Especially software cleaners, they get rid of the hibernate points, etc. to get more disk space for you, sometimes without even telling you.

What I do on battery is have my m860tu go on standby after 5 minutes of no activity and then 10 minutes to hibernate with no activity and completely disabled anything for lid closing. I find less complications that way, and at least if it goes in your bag, you are sure that at these times, the events will happen.

do a disc cleanup and see if the 2.5gb hibernate file is still in there or if its been cleaned or deleted.
if its not in there anymore then thats your problem. if its still there then i have no idea :)
