    Hi All,

Does anyone know where exactly the lid switch is on the above notebooks? Mine would not turn off the LCD upon closing the lid and I'm worried that it will cause problems..

    Thanks in advance

    Robert

    Thanks for the replies but..

Fn+F1 - turns the touchpad off
Fn+F2 - maxs out the fans

I am talking about the hardware switch - NOT the software one that makes the laptop go into whatever mode upon closing the lid.
My problem is that the laptop does not sense closing the lid at all...

What I need to know is where the physical switch for the lid is located on the laptop. I found the magnet inside the lid but there is no switch or anything of the kind on the chassis. Would it be integrated on the mainboard? (I found no sign of that but still...)

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Robbie

sheesh, that was dumb of me... Fn+F2 is the software switch for the BACKLIGHT ONLY...

Sorry robbiesz, I have no clue as to the hardware mechanisms involved in turning off the screen. You really need to call tech support on this one.

Please take a look into the M57x0 service manual, you should be able to find the answer there.

    OK,

I guess i found the answer for you.

The magnet is controlling a reed switch ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reed_switch) , if the magnet is not reaching the switch it` ll not work. Look out for the switch and shift the magnet or the switch into the right position to trigger it.
If you are uncertain about its location You may use an external magnet and hover over the board till its activating it.

    Good Luck

It should be on one of the F keys. Check out which one that is , and then Fn+that F key will turn it off.
If you still have warranty, I`d sugest calling your manufacturer.
