the velociraptor is the new western digital 2.5" 10,000rpm drive. The only problem is it's server size, ie 15mm thick. Also you void the warranty by taking it out of its 3.5" cooler

    Not going to happen.

Again another thread about 10k+ rpm drives.

THEY CANNOT BE USED IN NOTEBOOKS.

They were designed and manufactured specifically for use in portable/slimline workstations and servers. PERIOD.

If you try to use any of them in a notebook, you will find that it will not fit properly... and will overheat and damage your system.... even with active cooling that heat in such a small environment is not going to work.

I only know one person that did it, and he did not post it anywhere because he fried his mobo (heat and power draw) and did not want his vendor to know... in order to get a warranty replacement.

I will tell you he tried it again and used a SATA cable extension (he did not think of using e-SATA) to get the raptor to run externally with external power... which seems to be the only solution..

get an external enclosure or HDD connector (through USB, firewire, or E-SATA) and then use the 10k rpm drives.
