Bouncing back and forth between NP5160 and Thinkpad Edge e420s. If NP5160 can last me around 5 years then I am a happy camper. Problem is, I don't know if it will do that for me. This is why I keep going back to the thinkpad even though its GPU is much slower, and specs in general aren't as great.

The question is kinda subjective. It depends on how the user taking care of their baby. My Acer Aspire 4720 will entering it's 4th year of "abuse" (open 24/7 to download stuffs)

my m860tu is almost 3 years old and still going strong.
only thing is graphics card died last week and was relaced within 4 hours by oem. best lappy ive ever bought. -
Still got mine after 3 years but I have been gaming less on it recently. As long as you look after it, there should be no reason for it to fail. Just buy a notebook cooler, and blow compressed air through the vents once in a while.

A laptop can last you a decade if you take care of it. If you maintain proper maintenance you'll probably change the laptop cause it's too slow (5-6 years down the line) before actually losing it to hardware issues.

For a bleeding edge gaming however, one needs to upgrade every 6 months. Most laptop gamers would keep their beasts for 2-4 years on average before moving to a new platform. -

Bottom line is if you take care of your notebook it will take care of you, at home we still use a Sager 3790 (one of the first Centrino's) and one of our admins uses a Sager NP5791. Both have never had any service done, rock solid!

To throw my two cents in, it's kind of a lottery, but with great odds. If you take good care of the computer, and it makes it past 1yr without failure, it'll probably last a long time to come. (Part failures from non-negligence usually occur quickly.)
longevity of Sager laptops?
