    Only if you're talking about the old, Area 51 m15x.

    A GPU from the current-gen Dell/Alienware is not an option, because of MXM incompatibilities.

    As long as it's MXM 2.1, motherboard doesn't matter. It will install and work.

    That's what I thought till I bought a fx3600m mxm2.1 pulled out from a hp 8730w..it didnt work..do I need to bios flash the gpu

    As i told you before in another thread, it depends on your motherboard revision; remove your RAM modules and look around for a small sticker like "V2.0B", "V3.0A-1" or something like that.

    One more thing : the 3 photos in the eBay listing is showing a GPU card which is DP/N: 0WDXVH but is not an MXM 2.1, despite the description "DP/N: 0WDXVH | MXM 2.1 TYPE III VIDEO CARD" under the title

    oh yea how stupid of me the picture is so obvious..once I find out my revision how to i know whether the gpu is compatible or not

    Both models that you've linked are MXM 3.0b and would be uncompatible with your M860TU. Keep up the search though.
