Something horrible has happened. I shut my computer off about three hours ago, after using it (it was working GREAT) and now it will not turn on anymore.

I have the Clevo 57mu, and the clock does not turn on but the harddrive light does (the hard drive does not actually turn on and spin). If the computer is plugged in the appropriate lights to come on. The computer does not load anything...the screen just stays black. Not even a beep or an attempt to load the bios.

Any hardware geeks care to give me a little help. I really cant afford the 3 weeks it will take to send my computer back for the warranty....(im in iraq)

    take out the battery.

keep the notebook plugged in to AC

then try to turn it on.

if that does not work, i would try the next things:
    - check if any connections/devices are loose... HDD cable
    - reseat the RAM, wifi-card
    - reconnect HDD (actually unplug it and plug it back)
    - then try to reset the BIOS (by removing the CMOS battery, and putting it back)

hopefully its not hardware failure, as long as you are using a Surge Protector/UPS... and NOT plugging it in the wall socket, electrical damage should be prevented.

I think you will not have any choice... If you're plugged in the wall and the battery lights up, but nothing happens when you turn it on, it's probably a dead mobo, or a dead CPU. Because usually if it's something else you'll see some BIOS informations on startup.

    Good luck.

remove all devices (wifi card, HDD, Optical Drive) except CPU, RAM

that should determine if it has to do with the mobo

Did you see the CMOS battery, its usually under the keyboard?

no, the clock doesnt start, i cant use the "function+whatever" keys to turn on the fan, wireless, bluetooth, etc.

the only part of the audioDJ thing that works is the power icon and the media drive icon...

the cd drive will not open and has no power.

i meant when the notebook is powered off,
can u use the Audio DJ to play music/mp3 CDs or DVDs?
(not when you are powering it on.)

The Fn keys and fans are not used when just using the Audio DJ, because its independent of the system.

UPDATE: so the Audio DJ works, that shows that there is power going to the front panel and optical drive fine... but not going to the motherboard.

unfortunately, i feel that it might be motherboard related now.

you did everything that any tech would do, but is strange that it worked fine and then wont turn on.

you should contact your reseller and ask if there is anything else that you can do before you have to ship it back.

i am still a little confused on what could have caused this.

the last thing i might try is to swap the CPU and RAM, if that is available to you... through a friend/family's working Core 2 Duo notebook.

because the system will not start up if the CPU is damaged or has failed.

im very confused, i fix computers on a daily basis, but this has me totally baffled. My computer is my baby, and it was working fine puttering around in photoshop....i shut it off. And then three hours later I get this. poop. Luckily I purchased my computer from flawless and they have very good service. I am upset that this will take away from my work, but at least I know I wont have to go through a big hassle to get it fixed.

having bad RAM still allows the system to start up, but having a bad CPU wont.

try to ask some1 you know with a Core (2) Duo notebook, and swap the CPUs for testing.

If it turns out to be the CPU, then you can tell Flawless, and they should cross-ship you a new one. And you can even use a Celeron temporarily until you new CPU arrives.

Hey just a minute right there... I mean Gophn you provided some very good insights especially with Audio DJ :). If it was for a peripheral malfunction, then the system would have booted up.

RAM : system usually boots, but beeps
Power: Maybe the source of the problem
CPU/Mobo: Not sure. I mean the Audio DJ works, so the CPU, the RAM and the mobo are used to play the songs no?
I would guess that a part of the mobo don't get power, but the AudioDJ does? Strange.

I'd agree with Gophn, probably parts of the mobo don't get power...

And don't worry, those things happens. It breaks for nothing. I had a good overclocking mobo once and suddenly, if the FSB was cranked just over the 200mhz barrier, it was breaking my memory. Not to a point where Windows couldn't run, just to a point where games couldn't run. A memtest revealed the flaws. So I order a new pair (was authorized to rma broken RAM) and bam, same thing. After 3 pairs I did RMA the mobo. It was confirmed by CHaintech to be a flaw on the mobo.

    Go figure...

The Audio DJ is independent of the CPU, RAM, Mobo, HDD.

It has its own microprocessor and board with codecs to be able to play CD Audio or Mp3s on CD/DVDs inserted into the Optical Drive.

It draws power from the battery and AC, it does not need to go through the motherboard at all. Pretty cool if you think about it. :)

And when the system is on, the Audio DJ acts as an extension to the keyboard (with the media keys) and an extension of the BIOS clock.

Thanks. I wasn't sure it had it's own board and decoder chip :). Nice indeed!

Then, I'd say bad board! RMA the beast and let us know!

I have just encountered this EXACT same fault. Audio DJ works fine, but otherwise the unit does nothing but light up the HDD LED and Power LED. Oddly enough when i let the system just sit there for a while, the system fan started up after a while.... which i found a little odd considering there was no other activity (ie: no LCD or HDD activity).

If you get this issue resolved please let me know.... i dont want to have to pay for a new MB if i dont have to :(

    Hi everyone,

I'm having a very similar problem. Except that in my case, Audio DJ doesn't work fine. I can turn it on, but it won't play any music, and then, I cannot turn it off. I had just finished formatting one of the partitions in my Asus Z92M when this happened for the firs time. I only could turn off Audio DJ by keeping the power button pressed.

I'm from Argentina and there are no official servicies here! I'm kind of dessperate. Please, if any of you guys get it to work, let me know what the problem was.

    Thanks in advanced,

    Juan

    It works now!

I really don't know what happened or why it started fine now. But this is what I did. In fact, I tried lots of things, but these were just the last:

    I turned the notebook off.
Inserted the Asus Drivers & Utilities CD.
    Started... And it worked!

It really blew my mind... I've tried everything... Disconnecting the HDD, swaping the slot of the memory, checked that the CPU was in place...

Anyway, I hope this was not just coincidence (although I doubt it) and you can get your machines working...

    Good luck!

    Juan

Allas, I had the same problem. One week after getting it, after coming back from eating I turned the computer on and the LCD did not turn on, the front panel worked somewhat. (Not sure if its exactly the same as your problems, with the lcd on the front and whatnot) My HD light stayed on and the LCD didnt so much as flicker.

Talked to the techs at powernotebooks for a while, changed around the ram, pulled the battery and held the power button, all that stuff. In the end I had to RMA it. I kept the HD and sent the rest in, everything from the keyboard down was replaced. Been happy with it for almost a year now. ^^

Just send it in, you'll get it back really fast.

funnily enough i got mine going again too.

I pulled out the battery and gave the unit a gentle flex. After that it worked, so I suspect that it's either:

    1. A lose power connector; or

    2. A dry joint on the motherboard is starting to disconnect (meaning eventual death of the mobo).

In any event the laptop has not left my desk since!

Awesome. I was working on my M570U when the screen froze and then went blank. Now all I can do is use the Audio DJ panel, turn the computer off and on, and listen to the fans and optical drives hum. I have tried the following without success:

    1) Remove battery
    2) Remove second hard drive
    3) Restart with mfg utilities cd

    Anybody got any ideas?
So, from what I have read here the next step is to contact flawlesscomputers tech support. HAHAHA. I don't really want to wait 3 weeks for the RMA - I have 5 weeks left of school and all my work is on the HD.
