    Hi there everybody!
I need some help from who has done or seen a mod like this. I just want to swap the 8700m in my clevo 570ru with a quadro 2700m a friend of mine have layring around.
    So my questions are:
    - is it bios compatible? I read about many mods with 3700m so I assume the 2700m should work too.
    - do I need to modify the card heatsink? according to this image
http://notebookitalia.it/images/stories/comparativa_8700m_8800m/assemblaggio_mxm_3.jpg the heatsink is different and might be reworked. aka cuttin the small copper bridge between ram pads. but what scares me is that VRMs on the 8800m are bigger and taller and I'm afraid they won't let the card fit the copper cage.
    Any experience?
    thanks in advance to everybody

I replaced a 9800 GTS with a 3700m and the only mod I had to do was removing 4 nut-plates out of the copper housing the card sits in.

    thank you!
but I had no doubt you could easily do it if you had the 9800m gts. it shares the same physical layout as 8800m, 280m, 3700m family so in your case the mod was straighforward. the bracket on the back of the 3700m is needed for some laptops that don't have a card cage (like the hp 8730w form which your card probably is)
the 8700m has a different physical layout, that's why I'm asking!
    have a nice day!

The VRAM positioning is different between the two cards by a 90 degrees rotation, they seem to have the same size. You do need to cut the cage in some way.
It would help to use a Proxxon tool, they are very manoeuvrable:
    Proxxon 28510 12-Volt Rotary Tool 40W Micromot 50/E NEW - eBay (item 120701333110 end time Apr-19-11 21:16:29 PDT)

Make sure you need to cut only that copper bridge, e.g. the resulted window is the same size as for the 2700M cage.
Sometimes you may be able to find these heatsinks / cages on eBay.

I have a proxxon-like tool and quite good skills to use it so I'm not afraid! I know I'll have to do it, what scares me is that the 8700m (as in the pictuers I linked) has lower and smaller VRMs (the grey plastic blocks) and it seems that the "cage" for the 8800m has a different shape where the VRMs are. Look here

I had a QS 2700m that would NOT POST in my m570tu, and it DID work 100% in m860tu.
I don't know if the HP and Lenovo cards are compatible with all clevos, specifically the m570.

The vRAM is not a problem because you can just put the pads under the cage. But yes, the VRMs are (didn't know they were called that).

    ALSO
HP, Clevo 3700m, 280m, 260m, 9800m GTX, GT, 8800m GTX and also GTS and 3600m:
board ID p398, exactly as pictured to the above right.

    Lenovo 3700m: board ID p612
The VRMS are slightly closer together!

Lenovo AND HP 2700m: board ID p610 VRMs in same location as p612!

I don't know if it will cause issues with the original m570tu heatsink but it certainly might.
Whats strange is that the 9800m GTS and GS should have the same board ID as the 2700m, so maybe the heatsink will fit. but clevo could also use a different board ID, or heatsink. I don't know.
