So, I went to laptopvideo2go and followed Dox's advice to clear up the missing textures error with the 180.70 drivers (dox's of course).
I also used the command line options to release the graphics restrictions. and the rivatuner trick.
I am currently running at 1920 by 1200, medium textures, highest rendering, and 45 view distance, 100 detail distance, and stock settings for car density and shadows with fps anywhere from 25-40, depending on location, #of things happening, etc.
The game looks great, but when I turn on high detail textures wow do I get some artifacts. It is still playable, but you might find yourself turning a corner into a block of nothingness, lol. On medium the game runs as well as my xbox, but much higher res of course.
I want to know other peoples experience with the following models and video cards:
N9262 - 8800m GTX and up
N597x - 8800m GTX and up
m860 - 8800m GTX and up
My comp is the m570tu with 4gb, P9500, 9800m GT for comparison.

My 3.5GHz X9100 has a hard time with it. The 9800M GTX is napping while the game runs. As far as GTA IV is concerned, all that really matters is your processor.
-
Planning on getting the M860TU around christmas with your same spec but most likely 9800M GT S.
How does it run? Laggy at all at those settings?
Would you mind taking a screen shot of it in-game as well so I have an idea of what it looks like if its even worth buying the game?
Thanks. -

im not going to play this game on my laptop till i put a quadcore in it... it really is designed for 3processors..
+ with the Lost and the dammed expansion coming out on 360in a month or 2... why borther stressing your brains out getting the PC copy working nicly... wait a year or 2 and they will have good mods for it like SAMP (200player online !!!!!)
Lost and the Dammed will prob add all the online upgrades that GTA4 PC has any way.
Personaly GTA games are best played on PC when the sistem is extreamly overkilling the games requirements letting you do wild and intersting things that would normaly crash/be to slow in the Console versions..
for GTA4 thats not right now.. standboxing with lag does not work. -

Got an x9100 and a 9800GT here, and GTA4 causes freezes due to processor overheating. Downclocking it with rmclock solves this issue, but even slowing it down to like 2.5GHz still gives me ACPI temps that reach high 90's...
It's the only way I can play it, though, and I don't think it has a big impact on performance since I can still bench it at 30+ fps with Medium textures and sliders set 30-40 (which, if you've been keeping track of people's experiences with GTA4, you'll agree is not bad).
BTW I'm using the 180.84 beta drivers with the modded inf from LTV2Go.
Now if only I could fix my system freezing when I switch power source D: -
while driving around i get - 22-24 fps!!
1600x1200 res! all details high!
Max proccy temp while playing - 40C
Max GPU temp - 72C
my bro already played it on the PS3 though! -
Yep,my 8800M GTX is barely used, the CPU is close to 100% usage. And trust me, you need the CPU power, since it`s a console port. The faster , the better...
-
Well I get about 15-20 FPS when driving around @1680x1050 with most sliders around 5-20.
My proc is T7250 (2,0GHz) and 8800M GTX -
-
Yea I tried overclocking it to 2,3 GHz, and I gained maybe 3-4 more FPS. Not much, but it helps.
Anyways, I have decided I will not play this game until I get a quad-core. It's just to laggy in its current state to be enjoyable.
m570tu and GTA IV
