i just got my 860tu today and i noticed the screen is kinda grainy like my dell 1520. i was just wondering if anyone has the same grainy screen? i have the MONITOR\LPL0000 display. it looks likes someone with sweaty hands touch the screen and then used their shirt to wipe it off(well not that extreme). only noticeable on a white background, but on a color screen the picture is vivid and beautiful . other then that this laptop is beautiful. hard drive temp 57degree max after installing vista, programs, and running 3d mark06. i got the score of 9256 on default.

I have also noticed this on my unit. Not by itself a deal breaker, but a little disappointing.

Everything can be disappointing when you expect perfection :)

this m860tu isnt as bad, but i know what you mean. definitely better. still not bright though
but this time, its the hdd heat thats making me return the m860tu... ahh.

I *think* that is a textural thing meant for anti-glare, which is a nice compromise for the picture clarity of glossy while not going to matte. Not 100% sure but i think that may be why

I haven't (yet) noticed graininess, but it could just be because I'm so utterly infatuated with the NP8660 that I can't see any flaws in it just yet XD It's my darling baby!

It's only truly noticeable to me on a white background.

i had the gateway fx and though its a 17inch with a lower resolution i did not notice any grain. its was also an anti-glare glossy screen.

Anyone else having this (graininess) problem? The grain is starting to get on my nerves; my eyes can't really focus very well on text because of the textured look all over the screen that is accentuated by the white background of word documents, etc. I don't know what bad looks like, but I know that a cheap Dell 1420's screen looks better in terms of graininess and brightness and that a Sony CR is even better yet.

The brightness isn't even what's bothering me so much anymore (though I would like it a little bit brighter); it's the graininess. If other people aren't having this issue, I would gladly send it back to get a replacement without the grain.

Any WUXGA owners having trouble with grain (now that those are starting to trickle in)?

I'm not so much concerned about the HDD heat anymore, especially if that driver posted in another thread to stop the HDD from working when it's supposed to be idle is a major source of the problem.

    I hate this screen.

HP's laptop's glossy screens are SOOOOO much better.

The only critic review I read (I forget where) called it grainy, too. Are all of the NP8660s like that? I've heard complaints about its' screen from almost everyone that owns one.

Its not grainy to me. But then again, I'm not fussy.

Honestly, to me, I only noticed some things looking slightly blurry when I increased my DPI (like windows messenger live contact list). Other than that, whites in general look, clean and clear?

wrong forums but **** i want to buy a gateway 7811fx but the two display models i've seen at two different stores have this "grainy" problem too. The other characteristic of this grainy screen along with a dell i saw there too was uneven brightness, like looking at a rear projection tv where when you look at it from a proper angle middle is brightest while it gets dimmer away from the center.

I had a the same problem with my M571RU 1440x900 screen, had them change it for a new one and it had the same thing but even more grain, it was also LPL0000 disgusting, I was told by eurocom that all their 1440x900 screens are like that and was told that the 1680x1050 screens don't have that and I've sent it in and upgraded the screen. if the new one has it too then I'm getting a refund because i cant stand how it looks it makes my eyes sore when reading text and that is a big issue.
