    m860tu np8660 getting blue screen when installing windows xp help!

    Hi, i just recieved my m860 tu and it crashes whenever i try to install xp! i just get a blue screen as soon as its done with setup loading files. :( someone please help this is so flustrating

    there was setting in the bios called where i could select windows xp or vista. can't remember what it was. i just had to change setting and it stopped my computer from crashing.

    By the way, once you set BIOS to XP, it's running in emulated SATA mode (basically, you were installing an older version of XP that does not have support for your SATA drives - so it was not seeing your hard drive, and this support must be there during install, not after). It's kind of hard to get proper SATA recognition back (your XP install will be slower than it would be, and your hard drive and cd/dvd drive show up as IDE devices). I say get a XP Service Pack 3 and reinstall with that or add SATA drivers onto your XP install cd.
