    It does, it does...

You fools! There was so much debate... it was established that there was an 'unreleased BIOS'...
That BIOS is the default BIOS!

    Pics in a second.

    Now this is interesting.

Someone once tried it and said that their M860TU wouldn't make POST.

Interesting. I had no success at all with trying to use a 3870 in my M860TU/M860ETU.

Looks good. Can you do a Vantage run as well ?

So I reckon you used the original BIOS as in version 1.0.0.02 ? or what?

The initial BIOS will lose the quadcore support......

I don't really have a lot of time or materials for testing right now, as much as I'd love to.

This is only working on external monitor because its an MSI card. Also I tried a little overclocking but it wasn't stable and I don't want to mess with voltage right now.

You can see in the pics that the BIOS was 1.0.0.05, however I just tried it with my quadcore system and newer BIOS. Everything is fine.

Did you guys expect them to remove support for the 4850 later on? :p I hope they wouldn't do that.

So then any BIOS for the M860TU would work coupled with an external monitor ?

Too bad only on the external monitor...

    No.

External monitor is because it is an MSI card.

If you try an alienware card I think it will work. Unless the Alienware vBIOS has other proprietary elements, but I don't think it does.
People have used them on MSIs.

This MSI card doesn't even work with built in display on the MSI gt627, were the Alienware card does. Its a specific video output for the gx720/gt725 I'm pretty sure.

Just realized my EC / KBC was 0.13  with BIOS 1.00.05 ?

I updated it to 1.00.06 with my e8235 and am going to go up from there, hopefully I don't encounter any problems.

What if you flash an Alienware vBIOS on the MSI card?

I have hardly seen any 4850M from Alienware on sale.

KingOfInterns wants it, although I think hes going to run into the same issues, hes doesn't believe me.

I might try it anyway now that its working on the m860tu which I am much more comfortable with blind flashing.

BTW if anyone has had troubles with E series CPUs on battery, I believe a BIOS update will fix it...

I do believe you but I try to be optimistic. I think every machine is different so although the issues you have might be likely not 100% guaranteed.

Sorry for bumping an old topic, but felt that it would be better than creating a new one on the same issue.

Can someone 100% confirm that if I got my hands on an ATI card with the right MXM version (say a 4870 MXM 2.1) and put it in my M860TU, it would work fine with no problems? No heatsink issues etc?

Nope. No one can confirm that.

You should try it and report back.

How much difference would a 4850 make over my gtx 280m?

The 4850M has worse performance than the GTX 280M.

w00t! Why would people bother with this, then? Considering GTX 280M is more widely available and a direct swap solution for the heatsink?

    End thread.

Do you need to under-clock the 280M a little in this laptop model? (Best card I ever seen it shipped with was the 260M).
