Mine is
Li Shin International Enterprise Corp
Output: 20v 6A -

ok. mine is delta electronics
output: 19v 4.74A
I think that's what's causing me my downclock problems. Anyone else have to share their power brick specs?
Are the power ports of all clevo laptops the same? if they are, then is it possible that PCMW have sent me the wrong PSU? -

i think so too. which clevo laptop has a brick with 19V 4.74A (90W)??
can this particular problem be the reason why my laptop shuts down suddenly when starting the 1st test with 3dmarks06 (note: the battery is not inserted to the laptop because i'm in a sort of troubleshooting mode)?? -

is there a power consumption monitor software that i could try to verify that the psu would be the problem? or would it be definitely the problem?

EDAC Power Elec.
Model EA11203B
DC Output: 18-24v @ 6A
Typical output voltage: 20v

Yeah, if you aren't running with a battery if the laptop draws too much power, it would most likely shutdown. I would call PCMW and talk to their support; low voltage/low wattage can damage electronics so if they did screw up, I'd get the whole thing replaced.

why would low wattage damage electronics? there's just not enough power on it right?

Ok. I called PCMW about it and they said that they will be sending me a new 120W power supply to replace the 90W I currently have.
I also asked them if the low wattage PSU they gave me would damage the electronics of the laptop. They told me that it would be possible but since 90 and 120 are very close to each other, it wouldn't be much of a worry since I had the issue only when the graphics card cannot draw enough power and turns into battery mode and AC mode back and forth.
Would having this 90W plugged in my M860TU really provide damage to the electronics inside? I'm starting to worry about it. Thanks. -
Actually no it would not damage it but you *may* experience problems such as lockups, BSOD's, random reboots, etc. whenever your computer tries to draw too much amperage from the 90watt power supply. I hope this helps. God Bless -
If I were in your shoes, I would ask very nicely for them to replace your laptop. At the least, get an upgrade to your warranty as they are at fault.

Li Shin model #0227A20120. Having underpowered parts shouldn't damage anything. Same kind of thing happened to my desktop. My PSU wasn't powerful enough so my system shutdown a lot. Upgrading it totally stopped the random shutdowns, reboots and BSODs.

@jagerq
My problem is that I'm from the Philippines and sending out the laptop back to them would be a hassle to me. but PCMW people are very nice in giving me compensations, really, lol. I've sucked every bit of milk out of them in terms of compensation because of the problems I've encountered with my purchase.
They'll be sending me a power brick for now. So I shouldn't worry about anything being damaged right? I asked about the issue of damaged electronics because I'm an electronics engineer student and I know that less power supplied than the power needed will just make things not run properly but not damage them, that's why I was confused, lol. -
Nah you're fine Kev. Now if you were pumping with a 240w supply, that would blow something up.
-
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
tnx kev! lol. I was just being paranoid as usual. PCMW has been a great company but they did not do their job well in QA when they sent me my laptop. At least the problems were jsut minor probs.
-
I see your problem with a replacement.
It has been quite some time since I took an electronics course, and I'm sure your professors could be more helpful with this matter.
The wattage rating isn't the problem per say. Your laptop was just asking for more power and wasn't getting it. This was most likely why your laptop froze up/turned off. That could have caused some hard drive errors, but I wouldn't worry too much about that if the scans come back clean.
I do believe too low voltage or too high voltage can age and damage some electronics over time. You've got wiggle room with the voltage, as any overclocker/underclocker will tell you. In this case, I doubt the damage is that major or that you would notice it.
For your peace of mind, run a stress test on it when you get your new adapter and check out the stability. It will probably be fine, so no worries. -

Yup. Well, the laptop only shutted down twice because I benchmarked it twice without the battery, because I was isolating the problem. I had the laptop for about 2 weeks now, and everything was fine. So I guess there wouldn't be any damage at all when I use the new brick.
